Why We Like The Altra Superior 6 Shoe
Built for the trail runners who believe that less is more, the Altra Superior 6 is a nimble running shoe with plenty of trail feel. Starting around 8 ounces per shoe, the Superior boasts minimalist cushioning and the brand's famous blend of 0mm drop from heel to toe, a women-specific fit, and Footshape toe boxes that let our toes splay naturally. Updated for 2023, version 6 has updated the uppers with a new ripstop material, increased breathability in the vamp, and tweaked the Maxtrac outsoles for more tactile traction and durable tread.

Not the same fit as the Superior 5
I was excited to upgrade my Superior 5's to the 6's and I was very disappointed. The toe box is so narrow that I haven't even attempted a run in them and won't.

So uncomfortable.
I have run in the superiors for at least 5 years. For whatever reason, the superior 6 are some of the LEAST comfortable shoes I have ever worn - something I have never thought about an Altra.

Such a shame
After having a great experience with the Superior 5, I cannot believe why they would change the Superior 6 to being so tight and narrow in the mid and fore foot. As a Physiotherapist specialising in biomechanics, these definitely do not promote splaying of the feet and a natural movement. Caused significant pain and brought back old injuries. The heel cup or back is too low whihc then pulled my socks down into the shoe. The only good thing is that the grip is better than the Superior 5 that was very slippery in the wet.

I have bought multiple pairs! Never want to be without.
I love these shoes. Ample toe box. They are solid on my feet but don't swallow my ankle bones. Good traction. Soles wear well. They are available in low-key colors and they are pretty easy to clean.

Disappointment
Wow. I loved the superior 5. I can't believe how narrow these are. Toebox feels ok but it squeezes my foot. Such an awful fit I didn't even try to run in them. Why change the sizing when it's supposed to be the same shoe?

Good not great
This is my second pair of superiors, though first of this generation. Generally I like them, but they feel weirdly tight over the center and middle of my foot, even with laces ~as loose as possible.

Why mess with perfection
I recently bought the Superior 6 after being a fan of the superior 5 for many years. I had to return them because they have extended the rubber toe past where it used to be thus causing pain in the small toe. Why did you ruin an incredible shoe that actually worked and was extremely comfortable? Please go back to the superior 5 style and don't mess with something that is already incredible. Luckily I was able to find several pairs of superior 5 elsewhere.

Review Update - found the right Altra!
I gave a negative review of the Superior 6 model and it really was a different shoe from the past. I'm thrilled to report that I went to a local outdoor and climbing store and tried on a couple of different Altras. The feel and fit of the Lone Peak 8 was fantastic. I bought my usual size and I am so happy. Please keep making this model with the perfect toe box and roomy feel in the front of the shoe, Altra. For these of us with wide feet you are the BEST!

Disappointed about Superior 6 changes
I was a SUPERFAN and hoped I could count on Altra shoes. But in the 4 years since my last order they've drastically changed. As others stated the inside volume in the front of the shoe is tight. The wide toe box doesn't compensate. It is a completely different fit. I Will try another model of Altra but I fear the company may not be accommodating the specific needs they once did. ) :
