I've had these boots for about 6 weeks and I'm very pleased. The grip is strong, a lot of my recent hikes have been steep and I appreciated the tread on these boots, they didn't let me down! The fit is good too, no toe bumping on the front of the boot on the way down.

Hiking Boot and Hiking shoe

- 40.5 which it their US 8.5
I purchased these (winter) boots along with my summer hiking shoes. They both fit perfectly. Even though these claim they are size 8.5, (which I have always worn and thought to be a 39. I wanted to try a longer size (at age 70, i realized that my foot had lengthened). I tried the size 9, but they were too big (long), as my heal was lifting. I decided to go back to the 8.5, which actually are 40.5 (not the 39 that I was use to). They are slender looking, yet have enough width. I was thrilled that, if the shoe/boot is either the wong size/fit, Backcountry would reimbure or exchange them. I could not be more happy. I will be back to BC for more !

Rubbing on the top of my foot

I've worn Asolo Styngers for years and loved them. I hoped that these boots would be a suitable replacement. But while test-walking on a carpeted floor, I felt rubbing on the top of my foot near my toes which never happened with my Styngers. This would be problematic on longer hikes. Sadly, I returned them. Will probably buy another pair of Styngers. As info, I have a wide forefoot, high arch and narrow heel. Perhaps other feet won't have the same problem.
