Trail Cargo Short
Assos' Trail Cargo Shorts are built to survive seasons of all-mountain riding while providing a dialed fit thanks to its use of technical textiles. It'll keep you comfortable and well protected on the singletrack and its trailFit cut is roomy, yet forgoes excessive material at the crotch, helping prevent saddle snags. Additionally, the Trail Cargo is the ideal length and can be worn with or without pads.
Assos scrutinized other baggies on the market, carefully analyzing their panels, fasteners, webbing, and zippers and how they contribute to unnecessary weight and uncomfortable pedaling. It decided to go with a minimal approach and use its Type.OF11 adaptable textile for the primary panels. It’s an extremely durable and lightweight bi-stretch woven material that’s highly abrasion resistant, fast-drying, offers UPF50+ protection, and receives a DWR treatment to fend off rain and mud.
Its AZPtech (abdomZeroPressure) construction uses a soft and highly elastic material that helps improve the comfort and fit at the waist panel for a smooth, comfortable wrap without excessive, unnecessary pressure. You'll also notice that the circumference of the legs is more tapered than its competitors which helps increase pedaling comfort and reduces hang-ups on trail foliage and your saddle. Assos recommends pairing these with its Trail Liner Shorts for all-day comfort and support.

I'm no goldilocks, I wanted to love these shorts but couldn't get a good fit.

These are great, but not for me
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
Purchased the shorts with the matching bib and like other reviewers have said, these are made really well, they are very light, don't fall down despite having only an elastic waist, and the pockets are small. However, they do run a little small. I have a middle aged man, work late desk job, eat out too much, dad bod and these were snug in all the wrong places for me. I returned after trying on, but if I were in better shape they would be awesome. I would recommend on quality for sure.

Stupid pockets / hands down best shorts
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
Admittedly, the pockets are pretty pointless. The placement on top doesn't make much sense and they're too small to handle much. I suspect that Assos expects you're wearing their Trail Liner underneath which has great storage pockets in the lower back region. Pockets aside, the material on these shorts is simply in another league. The shorts are noticeably lighter than the competition. I slid out on a hardpack trail this weekend and the shorts were not damaged, pretty shocking given that they feel so much lighter than the competition. The waistband feels like it's not even there. I've had zero issue with the waist staying exactly where I put it. The shorts are not overly baggy like some other brands. The shorts are pretty quiet unlike a pair of Fox Flexair shorts than swoosh throughout the entire ride. When combined with the Trail Liner, it's pure nirvana.

Pockets too small

I'm not sure whether it's just that phones are getting bigger, but there is no way an iPhone XR w/o a case will fit well in the pockets. Also, they're a very slim fit in the waist and the thigh and then weirdly baggy around the knees. I like the concept of a slim fit minimal short with no zipper at the waist, but these just didn't do it for me.

Wow!!!Great fit, they don't sag and cool
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I love the feel and material. Very comfy and cool. I wasn't sure about the waistband but it really works. No issue with sagging or getting my saddle caught on my shorts. Assos is expensive... but worth !

Yes they are not cheep but this is the most comfortable pair of shorts I own. They are designed and function flawlessly. I like to ride in baggy shorts and prefer them to stretch with my leg movement with no restrictions, these shorts do it all.
