Better than expected.
I did a lot of research and labored over this pack versus the Raide and the Osprey Soelden 32 because I know any would last a decade of use. I am super happy with the decision on the BCA Stash 40UL. I took it on a 6-day backcountry trip to Hokkaido and it exceeded expectations. The biggest feature that it had over the other pack is the side stash pocket, which was amazing to get in there without taking the pack off. Depending on the tour and conditions, it was great for water, food, or skins. The side zip is, of course, a must and works so well. The Avie storage is set it and forget it. The roll-top was also clutch to adapt to gear volume. The clips off of the roll top are much easier than expected. It has the perfect amount of volume and pockets. Zipping closed the internal floor is a nice option as well. It is lightweight, but can handle a load. Super stoked about it. My only small regret is maybe playing it safe with the black color, the white is pretty fire, but may get really dirty over time. I'd recommend!

Impressive Touring Pack
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Very impressed with BCA and the thoughtful design that went into this pack. At 40L (+5L or more with the roll top) this pack manages to cover 95% of my use cases. I've used this pack for day tours up to an overnight yurt trip. Compressions straps help make the pack feel smaller than the 40L capacity for smaller day missions, but allow you to use the full capacity of the bag for longer missions or overnighters. One of my favorite features is the Side Stash pocket on the lower right side of the pack. I use it to store 1L of water on the way up and it is very easy to access without taking the pack off or unbuckling waist/chest straps. During transition I'm able to keep my pack on and stuff skins into this Side Stash pocket for the way down. Intention attachment points for ice axes and helmet carry keep the outside of the bag organized. there are additional tether points for keeping anything else you may need on the outside of your pack (ropes, layers, etc). Even with large loads, the pack carries very well thanks to a integrated back panel and comfortable harness system. BCA struck a good line between weight savings and functionality with this pack. Excited to continue using it through the rest of the season!
