Why We Built The Backcountry Cardiac GORE-TEX 3L Jacket

"This jacket has the best stretchy, streamlined fit. Plus, there are so many pockets for snacks and gear when touring and so many venting options that keep me feeling my best." —Gearhead® Expert Alex

Made with an eco-friendly, PFAS-free* waterproof membrane, partially recycled materials, and go-anywhere features, our Backcountry Cardiac GORE-TEX 3L Jacket is a full hardshell quiver in one eco-friendly package. The 3-layer, seam-sealed construction is weatherproof yet breathable, while the body-mapped stretch panels increase airflow and elasticity right where we need it. Whether it's a bluebird day at the resort or we're climbing steep skin tracks, the underarm zips, vented storm flap extension, and two-way front zip let us choose how we turn up the air. And wherever we harvest powder, the low-profile snow skirt, tall tricot-lined collar, cinchable hood, and adjustable cuffs armor us against powder spray.

*made without intentionally added per- and polyfluorinated substances; may contain trace amounts

Good jacket

Just adding a note for other women like me always on the search for outdoor gear that’s forgiving on wide hips: the bottom of the jacket does not flare out as much as it looks like it might. I have a significant waist/hip difference and am always looking for ski jackets that aren’t straight cut. The powder skirt does hit exactly at the widest point of my hips, “snagging” there against what feels like the natural movement of the jacket. I was hoping for a slouchier, more relaxed look, but that’s not the case. However, the quality appears solid and I’m keeping it. I’ll just unzip the bottom a bit for resort days.

This is my first year with this jacket and bib set but I love them so far. I got stuck in a lift line at Alta for 2 hours due to avalanche control during a wet storm and I was the only one still warm and not wet in my group after standing and waiting. Even my husband’s arcteryx shell didn’t hold up. I’m always warm but never too warm, I don’t find myself sweating under this jacket! The hood also has great protection.
