Why We Built The Backcountry Empire Bike Short

Our Backcountry Empire Bike Short was inspired by one of the rowdiest descents in our backyard and built to excel on the technical high-alpine terrain of Park City's seemingly endless trail system. The 4-way stretch fabric ensures there's no limit to how much we can move around the bike as we navigate exposed ridgelines, while the longer inseam provides added coverage and a seamless fit with our kneepads. Plus, the adjustable waist with silicone grippers keeps our shorts in place no matter how gnarly the trail gets.

Awesome Shorts!

I’ve had a number of Zoic and TLD shorts and have had those always rip or tear easily ( especially ZOIC, they’re super fragile ) After logging a season in these, from desert riding to downhill, I can say I’d buy them again and again. They stretch very well, and are extremely durable. Backcountry makes a solid product.

I Like Long Shorts

I first bought the shorter inseam Slickrock bike shorts, and loved their fabric and quality of construction, but not their length. Upon learning of these 11 inch inseam Empire bike shorts I ordered a pair - and they are everything I could have hoped for! First, the number and arrangement of the pockets is much superior to the shorter Slickrock bike shorts. I like the way my phone sits in the Empire side pockets much better - as in the Slickrock my phone bulges from the front too much. Second, the Empire uses a Velcro waitband adjustment, much cleaner and neater than the strap on the Slickrock shorts. Lastly, the inseam - 11 inches is perfect when walking, standing and especially while riding. I’ve gone on to buy more pairs and the Empire shorts as I use them for everything now. As for the shorter Sliickrock shorts? They live on doing yeomans duty as my indoor workout shorts - where carrying a phone is not necessary and where their shorter length and larger air vent holes are helpful. Only improvement I could suggest for the Empire shorts are for air vent holes as large as those on the Slickrock bike shorts. The Empir shorts have smaller vent holes.

These shorts feel and fit great. My only critique is the pockets. The pockets are a little short. But I try not to keep much in my pockets on bike rides and they do have a side zipper pocket. I do need my phone on my though and it sticks out of the pocket slightly. Not a big issue but that is the only fault I can provide.

Handsome design, great colors (calla and sunflower), comfy in many conditions. I logged back in and bought more! Note: sunflower fig perfectly and calla is noticeably tighter, but serviceable. They wash and dry well. They’re my new favorite shorts!
