Why We Built The Backcountry GORE-TEX Snow Glove

We're no fair-weather skiers, so we made the burly Backcountry GORE-TEX Snow Glove so we can play in any conditions. We rely on GORE-TEX to keep our hands dry during slushy snowstorms and powder days alike, and its equally impressive breathability keeps us cool on warm spring laps. Tough and supple goatskin leather teams up with stretchy synthetic to double down on weather protection, and the glove's fleece lining and recycled synthetic insulation create cozy comfort on the coldest days of the season.

Nice

I finally got the size right after returning the first pair. The sizing charts will get them too small. I wear them at 30F and 55 mph on my motorcycle and am comfortable.

The right one

Okay, okay, those are letters, not words. Thank you Grammarians. Now, for those of you who are genuinely interested in what I have to say about these gloves, read on. First things first. The price to performance/features is unbeatable. (Unless you’re patient enough to wait for a killer winter clearance sale, then please, go for a pair of Hestras instead.) What would have made these gloves better? 1) Finger-fit is on the short side. The tips of my digits feel jammed against the gloves. Which means they feel colder than they should. 2) Dexterity is not so great. That vague feeling means making things just a little extra challenging. Like trying to hunt for your jacket zipper or fasten a BOA boot strap. 3) Overall make is ok. Not the most convenient pair of gloves to put on and take off as the materials bunch up quite a bit. For me, it happens a lot around the wrist area. Does this mean that it was a bad purchase. Heck no! I love these gloves because they genuinely keep my hands dry. (Between wet or cold, I’d choose cold any day.) I also love’em because they are sturdy. 28 days of proper use this season so far and still in great shape. ( Oh btw, I fall a lot so I know sturdy.) And on warmer days (between -2 to 4 degrees Celsius), my hands stay cosy enough for a full day’s play. In fact, IMHO, I think these gloves would be PERFECT for spring skiing. Which is now. Which means there’s no better time to get them. Happy skiing. Or snowboarding. Or both. \m/

I purchased size XL and can barely get my fingers in. I wear XL in every other glove I own and have plenty of room. These fingers are so tight and uncomfortable they are unwearable. Feel like they are off by a few sizes. Too bad as they are very nice looking and look to be well built.

Before I wore this gear to hike in cold weather, my fingers always felt cold pain that made me feeling my finger would fall. Now, I did not have that feeling anymore whenever I wear this glove. Highly recommend it

Relatively nice for what they are

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These are great gloves if you have realistic expectations. They're comfortable and fit relatively well, though for my specific hands, the fingers of the gloves are just a tad too long, like 1/4". The leather is nice, and they're relatively warm. I wouldn't really use them for resort skiing, unless it was a particularly warm day, say 30F and sunny. I would say they're pretty great for touring down to 20, without much wind. Disclaimer: I'm one of those that have persistently cold hands. If you're hands are never cold, you could wear these at colder temps.

they are ok

The price to value for these gloves are good. The thing that makes gloves last is maintaining them. The issue i am having with these gloves is that when I take them off to get something or scratch my nose, the inside liner goes out of whack with the exterior part for my pinky finger and is difficult to align back together. The fingers part is bulky and difficult to grab zippers for me so that is why i have to be taking the gloves off and on.

Great For Techincal Ice Climbing

Familiarity:

Bought myself a pair of these gloves for a long weekend trip of climbing ice. These gloves were fantastic! They allow a great range of motion and feel when holding an ice tool. Kept my hands very warm and allowed for quick on/off when I needed them! Would highly recommend!

Decent At Clearance Price.

I have two pair of these gloves. I grabbed them when they were on a really good sale a couple of months ago. At no more than 50% of the "retail" price, I'd say they are an OK buy. The quality of the leather isn't great. At only 5-6 days of snowboarding, I started to notice little spots where the top layer of the leather is wearing off from handling my board, strapping in, etc. They are still in tact, but you can see little grey spots showing through the black leather. Rubbed some Obenauf's LP on the spots, and chalked it up to just being a bit of a "value" material. Not THAT big of a deal, but we'll see how long they hold up. However, they do have somewhat of a fatal flaw. The lining isn't sufficiently attached to the outer shell. this causes two problems. The first is that the lining moving inside the glove causes a "slippery" feeling anytime you grab something, which really kills dexterity. The second (and most important), is that if your hands are at all damp or sweaty, the lining inside the fingers pulls out every time you take the gloves off, and is a real pain to get back in place. I've never experienced this with any other ski glove I've owned, so I'm not sure how it was overlooked. At a really good clearance price, these are still a decent value for resort riding, but anywhere near full price and I'd be very disappointed. If BC would have just put a hair more thought into the issues noted above, they would be a seriously great glove. Even at full price. The fit and features are on point.
