Why We Built The Backcountry GORE-TEX WINDSTOPPER Hybrid Touring Bib Pant
From long approaches to the hard-earned powder turns, our Backcountry GORE-TEX WINDSTOPPER Hybrid Touring Bib Pant keeps our baselayers dry for ultimate comfort through the climb and descent. GORE-TEX's most breathable technology is laminated to the stretchy and rugged double-weave fabric borrowed from our MTB line to deliver extreme water-resistant, wind-blocking power that stands strong through harsh conditions for optimal pow-chasing performance. As we glide and kickturn up the skintrack, our legs move freely and our microclimates breathe easy underneath the stretch construction. On the final bootpack section, the two-way side zipper lets us boost the airflow to ensure we don't overheat. As we transition, we slip our skins inside the mesh bib pocket to keep them from freezing up on the way down.

Are these really a Men's item? Shame on me for not reading reviews before cashing in on what seemed like a sweet end of season deal. When I got them I tried them on. Loved the price, loved the style, loved the color, loved the material, loved the fit. Put them in my bag for the summer. Just wrapped my first ski outing of the new season and I feel like I've been had. Number one issue - No front zipper for the men to relieve themselves without taking off all of your upper outer gear and pulling down the bibs. Huh? How could you overlook this? Second issue - the suspenders are useless and pop off with just the slightest body movement. My real intention was to use these for snowmobiling on warmer days. There's no way I'm doing that. It would turn a quick trailside pit stop into a 15 minute dressing room session. Remove helmet, remove neck brace, remove jacket, remove impact vest, remove top of bibs. Have a go. Get really cold. Pull bibs back up, grab the rest of the outerwear out of the snow that was once piled on your snowmobile seat but has since slid off while you struggled with the terrible suspender closures. Get even colder. Brush off each piece of outerwear. Put impact vest back on, then jacket, then neck brace, then helmet. Realize that your friends have already left you behind for a couple miles now... I would return these if I could but 9 months have passed. They seemed great until put to a practical test.

A Great Specialized Piece

Contrary to other reviews, I think this is a great piece. Its described as a soft shell touring piece, it's not Goretex Pro hard shell. It's not meant to be waterproof in the worst conditions. Its meant to be breathable, flexible, comfy - which it 100% is! I use these for touring and resort days in good/fair weather & warm spring days. The material is SO comfy and breathable. Its also warm, I can run just baselayers and a light midlayer. I love my Goretex Pro pieces, but the feel is essentially a garbage bag, great for storm days, but when its fair weather I'd rather be in this! In regards to the suspenders, I have had no issues with the snap buttons whatsoever. The only issue, WHICH IS FIXABLE, is the suspender hook and loop attachments. They don't have a large vertical "hook" portion which others noted cause them to detach from the loop. I just took my leatherman's needle nose pliers and bent the hook portion up/closer to the body of the attachment. Smaller gap = No detaching. Super simple, easy fix. The lack of a fly is whatever, these rock!

Big let down

I wanted to love these pants so much. The color choices, design, materials, and look of them seemed impressive. When they arrived, I immediately tried them on in hopes they would not have the issues that so many others complained about. Unfortunately, they are indeed a big let down. I dont know how a designer would let these issues go unresolved before sending them to market. The rear suspender snap doesnt barely hold with any type of pressure. Even bending over caused the suspender snap to pop apart. The front suspender attachment is also an absolute joke and simply pops off with just basic movement. No way would I rely on these while skiing in the backcountry. It's a very small suspender with no durability at all. I liked everything else about the pants, but the suspenders are literally what holds up the entire set and I wasnt going to have that constant problem. I am surprised there is no pee zipper, but I could of lived with that. Returned for full refund. IMO, when you put your logo and name behind a pair of your own bespoke gear, you need to make sure and do it right. BC has done it right with other gear, so I am so confused about the problems these bibs have. Unfortunately this was a big miss.

I love the fit…. I love the material… There is no zipper to quickly pee, so if you wanna pee you gotta take the jacket off, put it down… etc. I can live with that and I’ll chalk that up to my fault for not realizing it when I ordered…. The bib straps tho…. Are… infuriating…. They went to all this effort to make such a nice piece of clothing and then the hook to attach the over shoulder strap to the bib is like it’s designed to pop off constantly… bend over to buckle your boot? Strap pops off… reach over to get a sandwich out of your friends pack? Strap pops off… sit down? Strap pops off. Sooooo annoying that now I am on the lookout for the worlds tiniest clip or caribeaner to replace it… or maybe just sew them on permanently, because otherwise, they are great!

Almost great, but NOT!

This is the first Backcountry brand product I have bought. I think the workmanship and quality is great. I will consider Backcountry brand in the future, but I will look very closely at them. These bibs are actually a GREAT design. They are simple, good pocket and zipper placements, nice fit and unique mesh chest pocket to stash skins, AND a drop seat. Very Nice! The problem is I didn't realize they are NOT waterproof, they are water "resistant". Huh? You do realize snow is frozen water, right? Even in Spring conditions, in the backcountry you will get wet, maybe more so if temps are above freezing. Plus points for the drop seat for real backcountry use, but... no front zipper? Perhaps TMI, but I do believe I am more likely to use that than the drop seat :-) My wife asked me if I bought the women's version by mistake. I am leaving this review because there was no option for comments when I returned my purchase. Please re-release these bibs with waterproof material and a front zipper, then you have a killer set of bibs.

ok for sale price, laughable at retail

When I saw these on sale for $172 it felt like a no-brainer, and at that price, I can not find anything that competes, which is what has kept me from returning the bibs, but they do have their quirks. Ill start with the positives, as they are certainly there. These bibs are comfortable, super dynamic in ventilation with the side zips, and waterproof enough to keep me as dry in north carolina blowers as I was in colorado. The pockets are nice, and the yellow is super cool looking, but that is where the positives stop. As has been posted by other reviewers, there is no fly. Personally thats not that big of a deal as i cant ever stay hydrated enough to need to pee while skiing anyways, but does seem like a pretty big design flaw for a backcountry pant. The strap connectors are laughable - for a company that has put out some really high quality gear, im surprised they would use such an annoying connector as it was obvious on first glance they would not work well, and they come disconnected ALL THE TIME. This was solved with some thread, and a needle, permanently attaching the straps but shouldn't have to be done for them to be functional, and i tried hooking them both ways. All in all for the cyber monday sale price of $172, ill keep them and overlook their quirks, as they are functional, comfortable, and dont make me look like a totally jerry; but at the retail price of $429 this is a laughable and insulting offering from backcountry that needs to hit the design stage again.

Sizing is off and ineffective suspenders

I purchased a medium after measuring and comparing to the size chart. I came in solidly at medium to upper medium based on the chart. When I put them on, they are like wearing a garbage bag around my waist. Would not be good for touring as advertised. -no zipper fly?? - suspenders attachments are cheap, they came off easily when bending over. Returning

Men's bibs... with no fly?
- Size Bought:
- Medium

Nice fabric and features, cool pockets for skins and beacon. But no fly on the Men's bib? They do have a nice drop seat design, so if you squat to pee these would probably be great. But if you stand to pee, like many potential purchasers of this bib, these are truly weird. Returning unused :(
