Why We Built The Backcountry MTN Air Anorak

"I love running exposed ridgelines, but the colder air and constant breeze can freeze up my upper body. This anorak's Pertex Quantum Air fabric gives me that wind-resistant coverage I need above the treeline that doesn't make me overheat. And I appreciate how little space it takes up in my hydration vest." —Gearhead® Expert Jo

We built the Backcountry MTN Air Anorak for those who enjoy pushing their limits in the mountains, no matter the forecast. The Pertex Quantum Air material offers exceptional wind resistance and breathability, keeping us comfortable and protected from chilly gusts, while the PFC-free DWR treatment helps repel water, mud, and sweat during our journey to the summit. We even made it packable to allow for easy stashing once the sun comes back out mid-hike.

I'm buying a backup rn.

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
M
Height:

This fits excellent, we have more than enough "^" shaped jackets on the market (e.g. patagonia) I have broad shoulders, a muscular upper body, and a narrow waist and this fits fantastic, I have the medium and it hits right on the belt-line which is perfect length for a jacket, vs a coat which I want to land mid thigh. Oh I'm 5'9, 20" shoulders, 46" chest, 24" torso length, 32.5" waist. The material on this is ultralight and soft, good drape. Layers over L1+L2 great, though I wouldn't try a layer 3 under it unless you size up. It layers under an insulating L3 great and doesn't catch on outer garment armholes if you're throwing a denim or flannel over for an abrasion/dirt layer. The eco-dwr works the same as the dwr on my older or ferrosi, this is all you need in 99.93% of use cases, leave the goretex for exposed mt-top adventures. If you're in the desert or the forest or the city or below the snowline on a mt, this has got your back. I want to see the industry make more jackets without toxic dwr, and more jackets for muscular dudes, so I really can't praise this enough.

Cool but did not fit me

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

Bought size L which was too large but could have been a keeper if the pants fit. Just too oversized, especially in and below the shoulders. Not an issue given the lightweight materials but it's just kind of bulky and baggy. Materials and construction were great. Features wise, I think it would benefit from an adjustable hood. Also the flap above the zipper pockets looks unsubstantial and ineffective (although I did not use it personally). In person it detracts from the overall visual appearance much more than in photos. Would have kept if they fit; I just wish the size chart was more accurate, especially considering that this is an in-house brand.

I've been able to use the light weight rain jacket on a couple hikes. It's durable, breathable and easy to pack.
