Why We Like The Super 3R MIPS Helmet
Whether you're a regular on the enduro racing circuit or prefer getting rowdy on the trails without a clock nearby, chances are good your helmet's seen some abuse over the years. When your current model earns a crack big enough to make you pause, swap it out for the Bell Super 3R MIPS Men's Helmet instead, and launch into serious lines wearing MIPS technology and full-face protection.
When you're rallying along desert slickrock below cloudless skies, the last thing you need is a helmet trapping the heat. Fortunately, enduro lids have come a long way in recent years, and Bell punched out ventilation wherever it could in the Super 3R without compromising the helmet's structural integrity. Brow channels, helmet vents, and chin guard vents all keep air moving and save you from overheating when the sun's overhead.
While the In-Mold shell protects against direct impacts, Multi-Directional Impact Protection System (MIPS) technology helps absorb and diffuse indirect or oblique forces. MIPS is a thin inner basket sits more subtly on the inside of the helmet. During certain crashes, this slim layer rotates slightly to absorb rotational forces.
In addition to allover protection, Bell didn't forget about smaller features on the Super 3R as well. It gave the integrated camera and light mount a breakaway design. Bell also constructed the entire helmet with breakaway screws for quick removal in case of a more serious crash. Leaning more towards convenience, the adjustable visor integrates with a range of goggles, and X-Static padding creates a cozy fit between your noggin and the shell. The chin bar is removable too; stash it at camp when you're heading out on an easy trail ride, and bring it with you for rowdier days that involve less climbing.

Saved my face
After beating up my first one of these, I repurchased it because I loved the fit and how light it was. I recently fell 15 ft off a bridge, face first, onto a tree trunk stump. A portion of the trunk made impact with my face which fractured my cheek bone and went through my cheek. However, the majority of the trunk was stopped by the helmet, and was ultimately the reason that kept the spikey portion of the trunk going directly through my face. Essentially, the helmet only allowed about 1-2 inches of the trunk to go through the hole of the helmet. The doctor said that had I not been wearing a full face, the trunk would've smashed my teeth in and the damage to my face would've been irreparable and life threatening. Oh, and I never lost consciousness or was concussed. So yea, I'd buy it again.

Pedal Strike cause me to face plant pretty damn hard. I can't fault the chin bar for failing because it did brake my fall and this was not a DH helmet. I still had to have my eye, lip, chin and ear stitched up. I'll give it a 5 star if I can get a discount on a crash replacement.

Great helmet design, just didn't fit me

I ordered the size L to replace a size L Smith open face mtb helmet that I damaged. The Bell is a great design, the latches work well and looks like it is ventilated well. I was looking forward to this hybrid design. I removed the optional pads in front to give me the best fit at my chin, but the helmet was still squeezing my skull at my upper jaw. I compared the two helmets and I could see the big difference in widths. My old helmet of the same size was a half an inch wider than the Bell on the inside. Idk if full face helmets are narrower by design compared to open, but it would nice to see this helmet just a little wider.

Too small!
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Size Bought:
- Medium
I can only attest to the size of this helmet. I measured my head (58cm) and, based on the size chart, I should be able to wear a medium. I received it quickly, but unfortunately it's way too small. The chin bar is extremely tight around my cheek bones and chin, and the upper helmet was too small for my head. Thankfully, customer service is great - refund and return are super easy. They're shipping a Large with free 2 day shipping.

Great helmet!

I ordered this to ride at Trestle bike park this fall, overall a great helmet! The MIPs system is great, and the helmet is very light and provides plenty of airflow. It also protects very well, I tried it on my first ride by clipping a tree with my bars that separated me from my bike rather violently and I plowed face and shoulder first into the trail. Without the helmet I may have been looking at some dental work, but walked away with only minor scrapes and bruises on my shoulder. Overall a great helmet, highly recommended!
