Access Spike Traction Device

The Black Diamond Access Spike Traction Device straps to hiking shoes and boots so you can trek trails with icy sections a lot easier. Like crampons, the Access features stainless steel spikes to assist with traction. Unlike crampons, the Access weighs less, packs better, and accommodates shoes and boots for longer trails with icy, non-technical terrain. It's perfect for treks as grand as the Grand Teton, where there's more mileage on rocky terrain than icy, but there's still the occasional apron full of ice to navigate from time to time.

Make running and hiking on ice fun

I love my access spikes. There’s snow on the ground from October to June where I live, and I run in these more often than without. They make runs over icy terrain or even just a recently plowed icy road doable without slipping.

Great traction device

Gained 6000ft up icy Yosemite granite and had better traction than a dry summer day!

Winter day climb traction at its best!

This device is perfect for quick runs up icy and packed trails in south central Alaskan front range trips in winter. They are also my go to for traction on glaciers in summer melt off. They are a no brainer in the pack for days that take me into the mountains.

Intuitive to Use and fit perfectly

Fit perfectly on my trail running shoes and were easy to slip on/off. Used them for first hike up to Tuckerman's and they were 100% reliable entire way!

Best traction device

I routinely use these for 6-12 mile treks and they provide secure traction, are easy to apply and remove while standing, and do not fall off or move despite heavy use. They’re the best.

Very light use and metal broke

I’ve used these maybe 10 times on hikes or dog walks. The triangle shaped metal piece connecting the heel rubber to the chain completely snapped. I’m going to see if my outdoor store has a record of my purchase date, but I think it’s just beyond warranty. No wonder my local spot no longer carries this brand for spikes. It’s always extra sad when an outdoor company makes garbage. My YaksTrax, while less grip, have had major longevity. Kathoola is the brand I should have gone with but I chose these because they weren’t red colored. So bummed. I like durability in my gear.

Not true to size

Got the XL to fit Keen Revel IV in men's size 12. They can barely stretch over them but they are way too small. They fit a Women's 9.5 Solomon nicely though. They seem to be built well, but I wouldn't recommend them based on the small sizing.
