Aspect Climbing Shoe
Given that Black Diamond’s Salt Lake City warehouse is five hours away from Indian Creek and a few miles from Little Cottonwood Canyon, it only makes sense for BD's footwear designers to come up with something like the Aspect Climbing Shoe—it even looks like the quartz monzonite that makes up Little Cottonwood. This shoe is simply meant to jam sandstone splitters and stand on slabby granite. BD meticulously chose the upper’s leather from the finest European tanneries to ensure a plush feek in between a rock and another rock, and the leather wraps around the laces and breathable, knit tongue to reduce pinching while jamming. The stiff sole is composed of a uniquely molded NeoFriction Edge rubber that is long-lasting and reliably sticky for Yosemite’s test-piece slab routes littered all over Little Cottonwood Canyon.

Loved this show until it changed. .
So I’ve been wearing these shoes for years. I think I’m on my 6th pair. The past 2 pairs have honestly not been good. The way I can tell the difference is the fit and durability seems to be suffering. The tongue is thinner in the past two versions and that’s how I can tell which shoe is which between all of them. Seemed to notice the change since the aspect mids have been released. Starting to get hot spots that I’ve never had. Even after getting resoled. The materials don’t seem to hold up as well either. Before the changes I loved theses so much. I’m very detailed oriented and these I would consider a medium to hard stiffness. A lower volume fit. The tread was good for stickiness but not too soft. I used this shoe for everything. Multi pitches in Sedona to limestone sport routes. A good well-rounded shoe. I would have given it a 5 star rating but with the way they are feeling and wearing of the my most recent pairs, leads me to downgrade it. I’m sure it’s not easy making shoes. But whatever happened, seemed to be different and I’m currently on the hunt for other shoes now. Hope this helps!

My go-to trad shoe!
I love these shoes, I’m on my 4th pair. They hold up well in the creek and with the asymmetric design and low profile toe box they perform amazing in both thin to wide cracks. The stiff sole gives my feet support and makes for an excellent performance shoe on technical terrain. I don’t wear these for multi-pitch as they are too stiff for all day comfort, but difficult trad cragging is where they shine. My one hope is that the lacing system could hold up better, but I really do go hard on my shoes.

Great Shoe
I used these shoes while I was progressing from V2-->V5 indoor bouldering. Incredibly comfortable, I never needed to take them off even during 2+ hour sessions including walking around. The lace up allowed me to get them very snug. After about 6 months, 3 days per week use, the toes are starting to wear out in terms of durability (this could be me being a toe dragger). Overall a great shoe for beginners to intermediates that don't need the precision or strength of a more contoured shoe. In that grade range I never felt the shoe holding me back.

Amazing in Performance and Construction
Whether I am working the Moon Board, working the moves of Burden on my home wall, Taking my 8yo out on a 5.8 sport... This show has given me confidence on tackling FA's in Co and tricky thin had splitters in the Creek. BD hit a home run with this shoe.

Helpful
The shoes are 10x better that school gym rentals and 100x better than basic running shoes; the size is similar to my Hoka running shoes but the heel is a smidge too loose but otherwise a non issue.

Excellent All-day Trad Shoe!
Love these shoes! They are built solidly, very comfortable, and climb well. They are my go-to shoe for longer affairs in the mountains, or for easy days at the crags.

Good crack shoe
Good thick layer of protection for crack jamming. Would recommend women try on in person to get the right sizing comparison

Perfect trad shoe.
I’ve jumped all over the map to find a trad shoe that is secure and technical enough to handle finger tip cracks all the way to big hands and edge like a champ. This shoe was immediate magic once I put it on. Great traction, great fit, and a wide range of use. I normally wear a 10-10/12 st shoe. I got a 9 1/2 in this shoe and it’s snug toes but quickly feels molded to your foot. Can’t say enough good things. Fit wise for the performance, it beats most other trad shoes at a far better price. Nice job BD

Very tight - had to return
Narrow feet but my street shoe size squashed my toes into a bent position. Might be that I’m a beginner but these felt much more curved/uncomfortable than the neutral rentals I’ve used. I suspect these run half a size small but maybe they are just for a more serious climber!
