Tried before I bought
I borrowed my friend's Contact Crampons for a five day mountaineering trip in the north cascades. These performed perfectly for both walking across glaciers and climbing steep snow pitches. I prefer a less technical boot and I believe these work better than converting a technical crampon to regular boot.

Lightweight steel!!
I've been using al crampons for years (even in situations where steel would be preferable) just because of the weight, but these are BARELY any heavier and obviously much more robust! I've now sold my aluminium crampons and converted to steel full-time :)

All black diamond gear is 5 stars
I only purchase BD gear because the, testing, quality, and function are perfect for being outside in any occasion. These are great crampons and will be used to summit Mt Adams and Rainer in the near future.
