Why We Like The Distance Carbon FLZ Trekking Pole
As any seasoned pro like us knows, weight can make or break a distance hike, but equally necessary for efficiency with a large pack is a trekking pole or two. The Distance Carbon FLZ Trekking Poles are made from carbon fiber, which keeps the weight down but keeps strength and durability up. Twenty centimeters of adjustable length makes them versatile as well, so we can fine-tune their size to match the terrain.
A lightweight EVA handle and foam extension doesn't add much in the way of ounces, but it does add all day comfort during 20 mile days, and the foam is moisture-wicking as well, so there'll be no case of clammy hands slipping on a steep slope. The Carbon FLZ comes complete with interchangeable carbide and rubber Tech Tips, too, so we can confidently cross from grassy valley to rocky scree slope without batting an eye.

Light, Fast, and Adjustable.
I’ve used both adjustable and non-adjustable versions now. The flexibility is nice depending on if you are using the poles for shelter setups or need to lend them to someone. Quality is rock solid. They just work!

Best Ever
I bought my first Distance Carbon FLZs way back when Black Diamond first offered them. I used them in all kinds of desert hikes, big mountain summits (Mount Whitney, Grand Teton, Granite Peak in Montana, Gannett Peak, etc,), all hard going and a LOT of pole abuse. My second pair ditto. Then two days ago I came hustling down 2,000 feet from a peak in Oregon, in brush, scree, and snow, and one pole broke internally and came apart. Can you understand my anger when I only got 11 YEARS out of those crappy poles?? [Just kidding, of course. ] I have other Black Diamond poles for snow, etc. , and I don't look anywhere else for top hiking/climbing gear.

Best tool for the job!
Got these poles for myself for hiking in Alaska and peakbagging. Getting a lightweight pole that packs down and carries easily is often for me the difference between bringing them or not. These poles adjust easily on the fly and pack down perfectly. Grip is comfortable and the pile is sturdy and supportive.

Super Light & adjustable!
Love these poles. The flickLock is super cool. It pops open and closes nice and tight. Very easy to adjust the length on the go. I also like the locking mechanism used to straighten the pole. It's bigger than older models. Glad I got a pair of these. Also it's super easy to remove the hand straps if you prefer to go strapless.

Love them
Light and compact. They break down smaller than my old pair. I’m a bit concerned they don’t have cork grips—we will see in the summer time how that feels.

Lock mechanism failure twice
I have two sets of these poles one for my husband one for me. Both have failed because the little metal lock breaks. I can replace under warranty. I am very wary of going anywhere with these poles for fear that the same failure will occur . Is there a newer stronger locking mechanism on new poles ? Is there a substitute pole with something less fragile ?

High Quality / Low Weight
These poles are very sturdy and extremely light weight. Very easy to assemble and break down while on the move.

Defective
I wrote you about a week ago about the defective hiking poles and I have not heard back from you. The hand straps have no Velcro, rendering the polls useless. Should I return them? Or do you have a good set of straps you could send to me? I would take them in large. I will send my Request again to your Service email because it could be that no one reads this.

Light sturdy poles
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Size Bought:
- 110-125
I bought these a month ago and used them on hikes in Yosemite. I am disappointed that the two lengths do not overlap. 110 is perfect for my level hiking and I can make them longer for downhill. Going uphill I would prefer the poles to be shorter, and this adjustment cannot be made. With the current lengths, I can have 110 or less, or 110 and more but not both.
