Gold standard of hooks!
I aid off several styles of hooks but if I had to bring just one hook and often that is all you need then make it this one!

This is my favorite all around hook. It’s strong and very stable which gives confidence. If I were to carry just one type of hook (besides a pair of bat hooks like the Moses/Leeper Logan Bat Hook or BD Talon) it would be the Grappling Hook without a doubt. You can’t go wrong with a pair of these on your rack (always get pairs of hooks so you’re able to leapfrog them if you need to make multiple hook moves in a row). File the ends on an additional set down to a point for more versatile placement options when getting into climbs requiring more hook moves. Make sure to sling them the correct way by tying an overhand knot and pushing the loop of webbing through the front of the hook (you want the knot on the outside of the hook facing you while using it). This will distribute your weight in the best way to keep the hook on its placement. Remember, not to look at it as you weight it and ideally place your hand over it in case it pops. Also don’t forget some type of glasses when hooking or nailing. Not the time and place to get something stuck in your eye. Also if you find your hooks constantly catching on everything while you’re trying to climb rack them in a small bag (like the FISH Beef Bag, alternatively you can get something similar from Runout Customs or Skot’s Wall Gear - highly recommended).
