Why We Like The Black Diamond Highline Stretch Pant
When snagging summits in the wintertime, we pull on the Black Diamond Highline Stretch Pant. The featherweight construction feels ultralight and breezy yet mutes icy gusts and shuts out spindrift, shielding us from cruel conditions without restricting our movement or suffocating our microclimate. When the terrain gets icy, we strap into our crampons and trek on in confidence, knowing the rugged kick patches and cinched leg openings won't get ripped up or caught up on the spikes.

Disappointing Durability and Support
- Familiarity:

After over 8 years of reliable performance, my trusty Marmot pants started losing their waterproof capabilities, so I decided to upgrade to the Highline Stretch Pants in January 2024, along with the Dawn Patrol Jacket. Initially, I was very impressed with the pants during the winter season—they seemed well-designed and functional. However, when I resumed using them in November 2024, I was disappointed to find that the pants had already lost their waterproofing ability. To make matters worse, the snap on the left pant leg broke off, further diminishing their usability. I reached out to Black Diamond customer service, hoping for a quick resolution. Unfortunately, their response was underwhelming. They suggested I send the pants in at my own expense, with an evaluation time of 3 to 5 weeks to determine if anything could be done. While this policy isn’t entirely unreasonable, it falls short of the high standards set by other outdoor brands. In my experience, issues like this are typically resolved within days—not weeks. Based on this experience, I can’t recommend the Highline Pants or Black Diamond. While the initial quality seemed promising, the durability and lackluster customer support leave much to be desired. There are more reliable options available in today’s competitive outdoor gear market.

Luv these. I'm 5'8, 160 - the medium is right on. Finally got these pants to match my BD Highline jacket. Now, feel ready when out and about with this packable combination.

I wore these for 22 miles of trekking in windy snow and wet fields. They were great! kept me dry and fought off the wind. The fit was great. Not baggy, but I could easily climb over and under deadfall on the trails. I also bushwacked through briars and they didn't snag or tear. One day 2 (14 miles) the waist began to get a little loose so they sagged a bit. Adding a cinch or more elastic may help.
