Why We Like The Black Diamond Recon Insulated Shell
Whether it is backcountry exploring or riding laps at the resort, the Black Diamond Recon Insulated Shell is one of our go-to ski shells for winter use. Featuring a four-way stretch main fabric and loaded with ThermoLite T3 Eco-Made insulation, the Recon Insulated Shell is comfortable, warm, and breathable, so we stay performing our best all day long. A removable powder skirt and adjustable cuffs ensure the snow stays out of our jacket when we take a spill, and the helmet-compatible hood can be cinched up to protect us when the weather takes a turn for the worst. Lastly, two zippered hand pockets, a zippered chest pocket, and two internal drop pockets ensure enough space for all our belongings for a day on the mountain.

Perfect insulation weight. Well designed for the elements.
Like so much of BD, this is a jacket designed by skiers. It’s got nice insulation, but not too much. Waterproof membrane. Great hood to keep out the elements. Great construction. I love it. Perfect for really cold days or fighting the storm to hit the good stuff.

Armpits are tight on XL

Nice jacket. High quality for sure. Would have loved for it to fit, but the armpits were real tight. I’m 5’11” 140lbs, fairly muscular build. Body was loose enough, I could have work a layer beneath if not for the tight arm openings. Length was good. Arms were a tad long but passable with gloves on. Tight armpits made it impossible to wear even a fleece under the jacket.

Love this jacket
Very high quality that is thoughtfully made. The pockets are excellent and are just what you want when skiing a mountain. The hood is big too, so it fits over your helmet. I wore it in 26 degree F weather with long sleeve shirt and thin quarter zip synthetic material and it was perfect temperature.

Awesome fit just missing a
Awesome fit just missing a few simple key features I’d have liked. A tougher build for the price eg gore Tex, better designed interior pockets and the armpit vents could have mesh supports instead of blank unhinged openings.

It's the pits
Love the jacket but too tight in the armpits--I'm 6'3" and 200 lbs. Ordered a Large size and the jacket is perfect length, but not enough play in the arms--the seems had constant pressure in the arm pits. Same issue with the non-insulated.
