Why We Like The Recon Stretch Ski Shell
It's darn near impossible for ski companies to incorporate stretchy material into a ski shell that actually fends off winter's weather, but Black Diamond's Recon Stretch Ski Shell seems to keep snow out while we ride through the backcountry's deep powder.
Unlike most ski jackets, the Recon Stretch incorporates four-way stretch fabric into a waterproof, breathable membrane that shields you from snow whether you're skinning through snowfall or skiing through face shots. We love that there are ventilation zippers under each arm in case you get too warm, and a helmet-compatible hood and removable powder skirt to keep you covered in case you get too cold or wet.

Love this jacket
5’10 170 Size Medium This is a bomber jacket. I’ve worn it in a bunch of different scenarios at it always keeps me warm and dry. The medium is the perfect fit for me and has plenty of room to layer underneath it. I can go from a thin fleece to a puffy jacket and it still fits fine. It has plenty of stretch for active pursuits and can take a beating without getting ripped.

Awesome Ski Shell!
Picked this up for a new ski shell. So far I love it. Fit is great, color pops just right, pockets are large and well placed. This will be my new resort and backcountry shell and probably around town wear as well. Excellent job BD

Great fit but stiff material
Fits great, but material is stiff. The neck area is stiff and can be uncomfortable when rotating you head. Hoping that breaks in only worn it twice. The skin pockets on the interior are a nice feature for backcountry adventures.

Too new to fully give
Too new to fully give a review but this is my second one and I sized up for layers. First one was mostly worn under a ski patrol vest and worked flawlessly. Super bright red color so toned it down to brown and went bigger this time for more bc use. Sheds water and chairlift grease w nice flexibility in the shoulders. Chest and arm pass pockets are great. The hood is massive and will fit over different helmets.

Thick fabric, deep pockets, sleek design, and bomb proof zippers make this my favorite jacket in the last 5 years (coming from Trew/Flylow/Patagonia/686).

Best around
I’ve bounced between Trew, Flylow, Patagonia, Arcteryx, and the North Face for years now, this jacket and the Recon bibs are the best fitting and most durable kit ive used so far. The fabric is soft and thicc, definitely holds out the AK winds and “variable” conditons. This stuff was definitely designed by folks who ride: big pockets, burly zippers, and adjustable everything. Size up for steeze.
