Whippet good đź‘Ť
So I had BDs old whippet ( used in conjunction with your expedition poles) which was a excellent tool for backcountry travel and self arrest. I used it alot and thankfully never had to use it for a self arrest! BDs new whippet is a single pole and is much more robust and a lot more comfortable as it fits much better in the hand and doesn't have a piece of metal on the grip. I also like the fact that the when you remove the whippet from the pole the strap is attached to the grip. Another bonus is the whippet has a cover and a walking cover for the poles carbite tip and the pole has aluminum clamps for the poles sections. All in all it's a really nice tool and I look forward to using it here in the beautiful Sierra's. Thanks BD for another excellent tool for backcountry fools.

New whippet
Although I haven't used this yet. I've owned 3 different whippets over their evolution. And this one is by far the nicest one. Now has extra grip for the steep steep spots. Can separate axe part for safer travels when not needed. Definitely recommend this whippet.

Great for climbing!
I’ve never used this product to self arrest and seldom feel the need to use it for descents, although I have. What I really love about it, is that it turns a ski pole into “half” a mountaineering axe and is great for ascents that almost require a second axe! I’ve mostly used it in Colorado and the PNW!

awesome tool
took a pretty big slide while touring a couple weeks ago and bought this that night. not something you want to rely on while touring but feels great to have it in icey side hill conditions. Well worth it! Kind of heavy relative to my other poles but not too bad to get used to

Great evolution of a classic tool
I was slow to adopt the latest-generation whippet after using an old carbon one for the last 12 years. I finally caved and this works exactly like it should. The connection between the pick and pole feels super solid. It's easy to throw the pick in your pack when it's not needed. I actually enjoy Whippet-worthy tours more now that I can just put the pick on when I need it.

Peace of mind
The Whippet is a great addition to my backcountry ski gear selection. When you're skiing in "no-fall" terrain, it's nice to know you have a tool, just in case. And when you don't need the ice axe, it's easy to remove and you're left with a really nice ski pole. I would highly recommend the Whippet for any backcountry skier.

I broke the lower part and there is no replacement part available from Black diamond. I sent them email, they couldn't help me

The best
Nothing beats a whippet. The extra degree of confidence is inspiring, and the safety factor is great when. skiing hard approaches. Great addition to any arsenal. Love them.
