Why We Like The COROS DURA Solar GPS Bike Computer
Taking its name from the Spanish word for “a hard thing,” the COROS DURA Solar GPS Bike Computer is designed to support riders during riding adventures of all difficulties. It boasts an incredible battery life of up to 120 hours with all systems on and 70 hours with dual-frequency, and it additionally adds up to two hours of ride time per hour of riding with the use of solar efficiency. With this smart computer, we easily keep track of performance stats with the training platform, training load recommendations, recovery timer, workouts, training plans, heart rate/power zone alerts, and much more. To keep us from getting lost during our ride, this computer boasts features such as turn-by-turn, checkpoints, climb details, and smart reroute via Google Maps with a connection to the app, while features like a bike alarm and crash detection further increase our safety during a long adventure. When we finish our training session, uploading our data is easier than ever with several options, including WiFi, Bluetooth, and ANT+, which transfer to various third-party apps.

battery life great, navigation not great
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
We used this to help navigate a week long bike touring trip in Europe. We created all of our routes in the Ride with GPS app beforehand, then loaded them into this GPS unit. I wanted to use something other than my phone for navigation because I've learned from past trips that using a phone as a primary navigation device all day long is hard on the phone battery, and it's very difficult to see the phone screen when the sun is overhead. In addition, if the weather is hot, your phone overheats and shuts down from being in direct hot sunlight for hours, and if it is rainy, I don't love having the phone out in the elements for long hours. Anyway, I hoped this GPS unit would work as a primary navigation screen instead of my phone. It does work well if you are in a rural area without a lot of navigation decisions to make. However, if you are in a city, the base maps are just not detailed enough to be helpful. There are no street names on the base maps, and all of the streets and paths appear the same size on the base maps, so it's hard to tell what to turn on. After experimenting for a few days, I ended up using this DURA GPS device anytime we were out in rural areas because it was easier to see the screen in bright sun, and the battery life is great, and then anytime we got into cities, I'd move over to using the Ride with GPS app on my phone. I chose this GPS unit over others because of its solar charging/long battery life and its relatively low cost, but I kind of wish I would have gone for the more expensive Garmin solar, so I could just depend on it for all of my navigation needs. We enjoy bike touring and need a good navigation solution that isn't a phone, but this one is just OK. I don't need all of the other features of this device, such as connecting heart rate monitors and training plans and such, but I believe if those features are your primary reason for getting this device, it would work well for you.
