Favorite for summer hike

This is my all time favorite hiking shoe - especially for warm and dry days in the east. They keep my feet cool - but still very supportive. I love the grippy sole and I've felt very secure scrambling over rocks with them. Personally, I love the fixed tongue and the way it wraps around. They are difficult to slip on at first, but they loosen up once you start wearing them. Once that part is broken in, it's no problem. I have tried the 2650 with the normal tongue and I didd not like them as much as this one. I've had these shoes for more than 2 years now on lots and lots of hikes and they have held up. They have started to wear at the mesh part a bit, near the toes, but no holes, despite visible wear.

I love the Danner Trail 2650 shoe. This is a variation of that shoe called the campo, same great support in the sole and lightweight. It has been great for short to medium hikes - this version has a fixed tongue. This variation is lower volume and a little narrower. It didn't work for my wide feet but if you're like me, go with the regular version of this shoe. I also prefer to hike in low running socks and unfortunately I ran into some rubbing around the ankle seam stitching. If you wear higher socks, this isn't a problem.

Great light hiker!

I just moved to Utah 20 miles up the road from one of the Zion entrances, and that is where I took these shoes on their first spin. I knew when buying them from reading plenty of articles that these have a sock-like fit, without a separate tongue. While yes, this does make it a little tight when you are sliding your foot in, the seal around the ankle when hiking in sand is fantastic! Half of our hike (or more) was on sand or sandy soil, and I got ZERO sand in my shoes. This is also down to the mesh of the upper too. And this was without having any gaiters on, even though this shoe does have the built-in attachment points for gaiters. I bought a 7.5 because with a lot of trail runners I've gotten lately I've needed the 7.5 for the room in the toes, but I probably could have gone with a 7 for these. That being said. they still fit fine, without me slipping around. I just have a little more wiggle room for my toes. And the toe protection worked when I accidentally caught my toes on a rock. The grip was great! Our hike had us crossing a stream bed approximately 50 times (no lie, no exaggeration), and even when the soles were wet, I still had no problems climbing up the rocks on the banks. Wore them for almost 8 miles of hiking on their first outing and my feet felt just the normal amount of tired. They're very lightweight and give a good ground feel, which I really like (especially as a trail runner), without making your poor feet hurt from feeling every rock. Cannot speak to durability yet, unfortunately. Two slightly negative points, but not enough for me to remove a star: (1) The laces are almost comically long. I was really worried about them snagging on things. Normally, I do a heel lock lacing (narrow feet and a noticeably smaller right foot), and for that, the extra lace length is great. However, there is not an extra eyelet on these for doing a heel lock. I didn't end up needing a heel-lock lacing anyways though for these to feel snug, probably because of the nice sock-like upper. I ended up ordering some elastic lock laces (which I've done for other shoes, it's not a dig at these ones, it's just a personal preference) and so won't have to worry about long laces snagging. (2) I like to use superfeet insoles for their extra support, however when I tried them in these shoes, they lifted my heel just enough that I no longer had a good heel lock and was getting a lot of slippage. So I went back to the insoles that came with the shoes. Hopefully they'll hold up well!

I liked this shoe a lot. It was comfortable, seemed supportive and looked good, but the tongue is fixed. I find shoes with a fixed tongue difficult to get on and it becomes a bother to me so I returned them. I wouldn?t have purchased them if I?d known about the tongue. Maybe that doesn?t bother you?
