Why We Like The Eagle Creek Cargo Hauler XT 120L Wheeled Duffel Bag
A brute for our travels, the Eagle Creek Cargo Hauler XT 120 features a burly construction with plenty of nooks and crannies to stash our clothes and gear on our holidays. This bad boy has plenty of space with its 120 liter capacity and can stand up to plenty of abuse and bad weather with its abrasion-resistant fabric and water-resistant TPU coating. The Cargo Hauler also has reinforced corners and large off-road wheels to tear up the tarmac or haul our gear down the trail or jeep road to our hostel, campsite, or yurt. Finally, it features heavy-duty compression straps and external lash points to attach extra gear or secure our duffel to a roof rack, penny cab, or ATV. We like the convenience of wheeling around our gear, but when we need to hustle, we can also grab it by its rugged haul handles or unzip the tuck-away backstrap straps to slip it over our shoulders and go.

It hauls the gear
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Size Bought:
- 124 L
I purchased for an extended mostly field trip to the Peruvian Amazon. Pluses: It can carry field gear for 2 weeks in the Amazonian rainforest - this means numerous changes of soaked clothes. The 4 external compression straps keep everything together inside. End compartment is perfect for keeping muddy boots separate from main compartment. Handle and rollers work well in traversing rought terrrain and the 4 hand grabs are well placed opposite each other on ends and sides to load it into boats and truck beds. 3-way hauling (rolling, backpack straps and backpack straps clipped together to make a carrying strap) give maximum flexibility under diverse carrying conditions. Backpack straps store easily and out of the way. It got tossed around in the bottom of boats in pouring rain and sat in water for a few hours - but no leaks. Minuses: The 124 L is a beast to haul when full- so if you can go smaller, do so. I'm 77 and carrying 40+ lbs on my back isn't so easy these days. The internal cargo tie-down is pretty useless. Its a Y-strap so it doesn't hold gear together very well, but this is obviated by the exterior cinching straps. The backpack straps are adequate, but could be bulkier and it would benefit from a waist strap (as others have noted) if you are going to back pack it for any distance. I got the duck green color, so I'd see it easily in airport baggage carousels - but it quickly got covered with dirt and mud so its now a muddy algae green, you might opt for a darker color that doesn't show dirt as much if you care about looks. Zippers on end compartment could benefit with holes at their base like those on the main compartment so it can take a luggage padlock more effectively when traveling around sketchy locations. The exterior fabric held up well over the 2 weeks, but its long-term toughness to rough handling remains unknown. Overall: Its large size, multiple carry options, and exterior compression straps make it a keeper for long-haul adventures.
