Why We Like The Bulletproof Screw Locking Carabiner

When setting up a top rope for our friends, we rig it with Edelrid's Bulletproof Screw Locking Carabiner. The steel apex holds strong against rope friction, preventing premature wear, while the screw gate lets us lock it up with just one hand.

Lighter than steel

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

The steel carabiners last much longer than aluminum one for top-roping. Aluminum carabiners turn the rope black (from aluminum oxide), steel keeps the rope cleaner. FulI steel carabiners are very heavy. These Edelrid Bulletproof Carabiners have an aluminum body with steel inserts at the wear point. They are much lighter than steel carabiners while lasting much longer (and cleaner) than aluminum carabiners. Best of both words. I use these Edelrid Bulleproof screwgates in conjunction with bulletpoof bentgates for top rope anchors. Both styles are the same size. The rope runs evenly over both making a large radius that helps my ropes last longer. I like one locker and one non-locker so that when pulling the rope between leads there is a quick-to-clip non-locker when the leader arrives at the anchor. For group TR'ing it's nice to have one locking carabiner up there. I use a bulletproof bentgate on the rope-side of my first bolt quickdraw and I have another quickdraw setup like that for any directionals. It's nice to stop retiring aluminum carabiners that used to perform the same tasks, has already saved me money.
