Why We Like The Evolv Shaman Pro Shoe
A performance fit no longer means pain thanks to the Evolv Shaman Pro Shoe. Evolv's new Evo Wrap tech works with the dynamic midsole to squeeze out dead space and maintain an aggressive downturn for optimal power, precision, and performance without needing to do any painful downsizing. Softer than the rest in its line, this shoe boosts sensitivity to excel in comp-style bouldering and on bolted overhang. The split sole gives us security on volumes and smears, while the under-toe stiffness gives us power on micro footholds, and the high-tensioned rand gives us solid heel hooks.

Quality Alternative to the Shaman
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
I decided to try these because I have a pair of Shamans that I use for hard projects that I like a lot and I wanted to see if these were even better for me. Both shoes are well made, are aggressive and have Trax SaS rubber which is quite is sticky. The Pro has an elastic sleeve and only one strap instead of the three that the Shaman has. This allows you to get your shoes on move quickly but gives a little less control over the fit. The Pro is also slightly less stiff than the Shaman. The fit across the toebox was significantly tighter on the Pro and it felt narrower (even when I went up a half size) while the heel is very slightly lower volume compared to the Shaman. I don't think either shoe is clearly better than the other so it will come down to fit. For me, the original Shaman fits better.

Rediculously small, but solid
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Size Bought:
- 9.5
My street shoe size is an 8.5... the recommendation was to buy street shoe size for a tight fit, but my foot didn't even fit into the shoe when I tried an 8.5. I wear a 41 in La Sportiva Solution shoes - but I had to buy a 9.5 in the Evolv Shaman Pro to have a similar feel and fit. The toe box provides good width for my foot shape, but the "love bump" also keeps my toe knuckles from jamming uncomfortably when I climb.

A Worthy Alternative To The Phantom
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I became a fan of Evolve shoes when I bought a pair of Shaman Laces instead of just another pair of Katana Laces. I was attracted to the severe downturn, asymmetry, split sole and - yes - cool aesthetics. I really like them and climb in them pretty much exclusively now. FWIW: I wear 45.5/12 in LaSportiva but 13 in both these Shaman models. At the gym, I noticed many people Bouldering in Phantoms; but, unlike many other people, I think they are ugly = sorry. I was all set to get a pair of Phantoms anyway when I saw this new model and got it instead. I am not an expert Climber nor Boulderer, so take my evaluation with that grain of salt. Yes, this shoe is a little bit tighter than the Shaman Lace; but I kinda like that "send" feeling; and it's not uncomfortable. Indeed, after a few sessions, these shoes have molded to my feet and become tight but comfortable. I think because the "Love Bump" plate is thinner in this model, the forefoot is more flexible than my Shaman Laces; and I would assume that's true vs the Phantoms that have 4.2 mm of rubber underneath the forefoot and felt "stiff" to me. I get this feeling that I could scrunch my toes and "grab" a feature, kind of like a monkey can do with their prehensile feet. I like this phenomenon, and think you might too. As you can see, there's not as much rubber on the top as the Phantom, in case that is an issue with you and you blow through that part of your shoes. The heel grasps mine very tightly, so I doubt you would encounter heel slips with this model. In all, I like them and they are helping my Bouldering progress. If you like Evolve as much as I do now, you can't go wrong with either these babies or the Phantoms; but you might find these a little softer and more flexible than the Phantoms.

Subtle but Great Upgrade from Shaman
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- 10.5
A little bit softer and more sensitivity to the Shaman, but overall still a supportive/stiff shoe. This was a little bit tighter compared to the Shamans and Phantoms. Still stayed with the same size (10.5 USM), but the Pro is definitely going to be a more "sending fit" than an all-day shoe, which is perfect because this will be a great shoe for the tough projects.
