EXCELLENT Balanced Gravel/XC Shoe
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
Been rocking these on the gravel bike for a few months now, and I've been impressed. My favorite offroad shoe is the Vento Ferox, which has a 10/10 sole stiffness, is super light, low volume and narrow, and has a velcro closure around the cuff and a lower BOA dial for the forefoot. The Proxy, on the other hand, has an 8/10 sole stiffness, is a tiny bit heavier, has a roomier fit throughout, with a single BOA dial at the top. I love a stiff shoe to prevent hotspots and for just general power transfer, and the Proxy is still stiff, but objectively more comfortable than the Ferox. No hotspots, higher volume that accommodates how my feet swell a tiny bit on longer rides, and easier adjustment on the fly with the single BOA dial. One design decision that Fizik makes on all their shoes is how long they make the cleat nut channels. I need a very rearward cleat position due to some ankle instability (along with less saddle setback and longer stems!), and every Fizik shoe allows me to do this. Plenty long enough fore as well for folks who have a more typical cleat placement. No questions on durability and breathability. Fizik has their materials dialed. Trust the size chart. I wear a 11/11.5 US Men's, 45 Fizik, 45.5 Shimano, 45.5 Giro, 46 Lake. Feel free to call/chat in and ask for me if you have questions! #CompetitiveCyclistGearheads #BackcountryGearheads
