Meets expectations

Looked at this coat for a long time before getting it on sale. I’m 5’11” and 167 pounds (size 40 men’s suit) and bought a L. It is not roomy so if you want to wear a thick sweater or plush fleece consider sizing up. Not in love with the zipper but I have a thing with zippers. It is warm but I don’t live in an area where it gets really cold. I was looking for something that would be thorn-resistant but this is not: so far I haven’t developed any tears walking through briars, etc. and it’s a lot better than a down coat with a nylon shell. Haven’t been in the rain with it yet; I know you can buy “Greenland wax” to treat it with to help it shed water. Looks like it will hold up—hope so!

This jacket is far and above my most versatile winter jacket. In case BC doesn't list them, my measurements are: 5'11" (180cm), 190lbs (86kg), with a 44" (112cm) chest, wide shoulders with an athletic build. The XL fits like a glove with room for light to mid layers underneath--maybe even a heavy sweater, but I've never needed more than a mid-weight sweater and even then it was too much warmth for me personally. I live in the PNW, so city (Portland / Seattle) temperatures don't dip frequently below the 30s F (0 to low negatives C) but heading into the mountains during the winter to snow-shoe or ski, you're in the twenties or the teens (below 0 C). The jacket is elegant enough to go on top of dress clothes for the office, and I also use it as a ski jacket. Skiing may not be its best or intended purpose, but I've done it twice and it performed flawlessly both times. All I had underneath was a thin polyester base-layer and a cotton long-sleeve t-shirt, also thin. Even getting blasted by the wind on the chairlifts, I was sweating doing runs--this jacket is that warm. After multiple runs down the mountain, a couple of times I unzipped it completely on the lift to cool down. I do have a tendency to be hot nearly all the time, however, so others may feel more comfortable with additional layers in colder weather. I rarely, if ever, use hoods, but this hood is large enough to fit over a ski helmet, which I appreciated. I prefer not having drawstrings, but other reviewers have complained about the lack of them. To each their own. Even when temperatures crept up a bit and bits of snow melted into the jacket, wetting it at certain spots, I stayed warm and dry. A few minutes out of the elements and the G-1000 fabric dried extremely quickly. I have not waxed this jacket; it is completely original from the factory. The YKK zippers are very smooth and it's possible to operate them even with thicker ski gloves, though with some dexterity. I almost NEVER buy clothes for full-retail, and in full-transparency purchased mine on sale, but this is one of the only pieces in my wardrobe I'd be willing to pay full price for. It's that good.

Sleeves are a bit short for big shoulders
I just got it, so I can't say much as to the longevity of the product. I live in a place with very little precipitation, and water resistance isn't my biggest need (I have a Deb for that). I'm surprised how light this is compared with a stolen Carhartt parka I had that has since been discontinued. I like the fit, the black can be an outdoors coat, and still double as a coat for more formal days at church with a tie. I'm leaving 4 stars because I'm 5'11" (180cm), 215 lbs (97kg) with an athletic build, and a 44" (111cm) chest, ordered an XL, and while fit in the chest feels pretty good, if I raise my arms, it's snug in the back, and about 2" (5cm) of my wrist is exposed. It's snug around my backside, but not a bad fit. I actually like that it prevents too much airflow up my midsection. For more active movement, unzipping from the bottom makes it very useable.

Poor fitment
Poor fitment. Ordered a Medium as I had the chance to try on a Skgso in that size and fit well. Ordered the Greenland Winter in M and its too tight at the thighs. Upper body and mid torso is okay as are the arms. Reluctant to exchange for a L as I previously returned a Sormland that was akin to wearing a bed sheet. No idea what is going in with the cuts and sizes frfom Fjallraven but my adice is do not buy unless you can try on the specific jacket you want. Very disappointed.

Dealbreaker because of the hood
I like this jacket and have had it for 3 years. The hood is a deal breaker rendering the jacket unusable for the very reason I bought it. Considering returning or getting rid of the jacket.

Near perfect but the hood broke the deal
- Familiarity:

I love this jacket. It's comfortable, warm, durable, waterproof. It's hefty but not bulky and fits very well. But.. I returned mine because of the hood. It's excessively large. Even while wearing a thick beanie, I could freely turn my neck from side to side inside the hood. Moreover, Even the amphitheatre size wouldn't bother me if there was some way to manage it with the wind, but with every gust my head was uncovered yet again. Why Fjallraven could you not have added a drawstring to this? Literally on every other FR jacket, there's a drawstring for the hood. This is such a big design flaw that I'm shocked it was a miss on this manufacturer. I am genuinely sad to have to return this jacket. It's almost perfect, but for 350 dollars, the hood was a deal breaker.

The perfect combination of warmth and weight.
I find the Greenland to be the perfect weight, I usually find winter jackets to be too warm and heavy but the Greenland winter for me the perfect combination, the size is a great fit (I did use the size guide and it was very accurate) and there’s enough room to layer up if needed, yet it doesn’t look too large if I only have one layer underneath. As usual from Fjallraven product quality is fantastic and I’m very happy with the coat.

Excellent Coat, a Couple Minor Upgrades Needed
I bought this as an everyday winter coat for the notoriously windy and cold Chicago winters. I've only used it a few times, but the canvas kept me dry on an especially chilly, rainy day. I would suggest going a size up from what you would normally buy to allow yourself the ability to layer underneath for colder days. In my estimation, the fleece is better than the down version because of its wicking properties and thermoregulation that you don't get with down. It can be worn w/ just a t-shirt on milder days without causing you to sweat. The pockets are large and easy to access w/ the snap buttons, and I love the one on the inside of the jacket to stash my wallet and iPhone. My only suggestion to improve this coat would be to move the two hand pockets to the diaphragm area and cant them as you see on a classic pea coat. Additionally, I would like to see some sort of hand warmer material used instead of the canvas. All in all, an excellent, stylish coat that I look forward to using for many years to come.

Please please please sort the hood out
I have 3 fjallraven winter coats currently in use for various things. All fantastic. I bought this for work commute as they dont do many suitable ones in black. Not too warm so good fir hopping on snd of the train. But had to send this one back as the hood is useless. Hood sits too tall and floppy with no adjustment. Eithe falls over your eyes or the cold wind fills it like a sail. Adjustment cords would make this a good jacket. And adjustable and removable hood would make this a superb jacket
