Great trousers!

I decided to upgrade from Barens Pro Trousers to these Vidda pro as I liked ventilation option and added stretch fabric in crotch area. Indeed those two features seem to be really nice and worth the upgrade. I also like buttoned strap adjustments at the leg endings- finally endings don't get below my heel when walking barefoot and are equally comfortable when wearing boots. Cons: - Compared with Barens Pro there is no longer pocket for axe on left leg. I never found it comfortable to have an axe in it, but I used it for compact flashlight. Instead of pocket there is ventilation zipper now. - Pocket for mobile phone on right leg sits right on top of leg instead of being on side of leg. That means that I can feel phone in that pocket all the time. Barens Pro has same pocket but 5cm on the right side of leg and then it is much more comfortable. But again now there is ventilation zipper. Minus one star for this feature. - So called "knife pocket" is not usable for that purpose if You have mobile phone in right side mesh pocket as one normally would have. Knife and phone essentially sit on leg one atop other and rub together. Also it is a lot of weight in the same area instead of distributing it evenly. I just put knife on belt and phone sits in that mesh pocket as solution, but that knife pocket will not get any use. - Axe loop- I don't see how one can stick axe in there. I mean I can get three fingers in that loop, but slide in there axe handle, I don't think so. As You can see not much of cons here- ventilation comes with its cost in uncomfortable pockets, so if possible I would like to see some pants that have both- good ventilation and side pockets on the "side" not front of leg.

Tailoring issues

3/25 Female. Been a Vida Pro pant wearer all adult life. Men's tailoring provides deeper pockets than the female version (sexism?) and better fit for me. Although baggier, the "older" pants accommodated my long underwear when cold, and I have worn them to bits. HOWEVER, the "new improved" sizing in the same, exact size, tailored SMALLER in waist, hips; seat, shortened the "rise"; and zipping up a real pain; making access to the many pockets impossible! WHY!? The way the zipper bulges out and the tight fit make these useless for my needs and wants. I cannot imagine how any male would fit these, as there is absolutely no space in the crotch. So beware! I still recommend these pants and they have laundered, traveled, hiked well, can dress up and down; and are very sturdy for me. Suggest purchasing one or two sizes larger and trying on! The "old" ones are still my "go to" pants, and I have had to leave the new ones in the closet.

Excellent but not perfect

These pants have been faithful companions on many adventures, in many environments, for many years. I have *many* good thig things to say about them, and only a few small complaints. Here's the good 1. They're extremely comfortable. 2. They're very odor resistant, which means I can wear them longer and pack less of them. 3. They're very grime resistant. I've had thigh deep in some gross stuff, and pretty much none seems to get through. 4. They dry very quickly 5. The pocket location is money. No back pockets means pickpockets are only going to get a handful of cheek. The more frontal location of the cargo pockets eliminates the annoying rubbing that traditional, side located cargo pockets can have. 6. They layer quite well. Roomy enough for some solid base and mid layers, but don't feel cumbersome or restrictive with over layers. 7. Knee pads baby. 8. I personally think they look pretty cool. I don't feel like a total doofus wearing them around town. Okay, so now for the complaints. 1. Those vents need some kind of mesh. They're grime resistant when zipped. When you open them, every loose speck of sand, mud, or rocks within a 10 mile radius is coming for your legs. Not to mention bugs. 2. The knife pocket is pretty useless and uncomfortableto actually use. I'd rather just not have it and attach a knife to my belt. 3. The axe loop is also very dumb, but it's very minimal so that ones kind of petty. I gues you can carabiner some gloves to it. 4. The belt loops are unusually small for no reason. They're fine for most belts, but there's a few that just won't go through the loops without a fight. Like the 1.75" one I happen to use as a gear belt. 5. The faux gater and boot lace hook is just added cost and weight. A gator (or just blousing your boots USMC style) is significantly superior to that fragile elastic band and hook that only secures one part of your pants. 6. The ykk zippers are a prime choice, but they admittedly feel a little... unsubstantial. I haven't broken any yet, but they could be upgraded for sure. That's it. Over all, extremely high peaks, not very deep valleys. Can't give them a 5 because they aren't perfect, but they are excellent.

Every day pants

I’ve been wearing these pants for both work and play for the last 3 years. Phenomenal in almost every way. Hard wearing, durable, and stylish. I do wish they were a bit thicker (like this version from years ago), but they are thick enough for construction work. They happen to be just right for backpacking in the Winds of Wyoming - warm days, cold nights. As to the comments from others about being too tight, order a larger size… Pockets are adequate for what I put in them but they are not giant cargo pockets. One of the best features is the strategic stretch material. Pants are never binding and always comfortable. Thank you for making an amazing product!

Comfortable

I had the regular vidda pro pants for 6 years , but my first impression of this vidda ventilated are lighter, comfortable and the ventilation is a game changer, to avoid excess of heat !

Comfortable pants

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
38 by 32

I have a vidda pro regular pants for more than 7 years and definitely the ventilated are convenient and more flexible, thanks to the flexible gusset fabric, I love them , highly recommended for hiking, walking, snowshoeing , ideally for spring , autumn and winter with a merino wool leggings underneath 👍🏼

Great stuff

Really nice stuff & functional but bit too long for 163cm height. I might it cut it to make it well fit.

do not recommend

Way to tight compared to other pants of the same size sold by them.. pockets might as well not be there because you cant put anything in them. and again the sizing is all over the map. Get a size or two up than what you normally wear.

Pockets are terrible

Only problem is the pocket are pretty useless without pleats in them to allow them to expand. The left leg ones especially are very tight unless you have twigs for legs. Can fit in much without using force to push them in.

Haste makes chafe

No offense, but size up. I’m specifically speaking to my thiqq boys that make noise in the gym. We love leg day, we do it because it allows us to hike for longer. We do it for the glutes. Trust me when I say it’s not you it’s them. Size up and thank me later. Aside from the sizing I love these and I personally think they are a great investment if you want to take your hiking attire to the next level. Ventilation isn’t the cure for everything and everyone sweats differently. The ventilation here definitely cured my souther sweat factory. I used these on a hike and my back was getting sweaty so on way back I ventilated and holy cow what a difference. You sacrifice a pocket and some thigh space by having the zipper to ventilate but this thiqq boy doesn’t like to chafe and am I happy I found these. I still give these a 5 star regardless of the size up. I do not like to have a sweaty bottom or back and this did exactly what I needed. Take the time and invest in gear that will last longer, haste makes chafe.
