Why We Like The Boulder 100 Briefcase
Whether we're escaping society by traveling into the wilderness, road tripping the country in our converted van, or prepping our house for when the grid goes down, the Goal Zero Boulder 100 Briefcase offers us a sturdy, foldable design for convenient travel combined with the ability to harness up to 100 watts of energy directly from the sun.
This foldable solar panel is comprised of two Boulder 50 solar panels attached with a hinge, so you can easily slide it into the provided carrying case before embarking off the grid. The sturdy aluminum frame and Z Brackets compatibility give you the ability to attach this solar panel to the roof of your humble abode, camper, or van. It's also chainable with older Goal Zero Boulder 15/30 Solar Panels, as well as with the Boulder 90 Solar Panel (with the use of an MC4 to 8-millimeter adapter). This allows you to harness even greater energy from the sun, maximizing the energy going into your Goal Zero power pack or portable power station.

Well Built - Power Rating Overstated
This panel is well built and the carrying case is a nice touch. Unfortunately the power rating is overstated by at least 25%. Even with the MPPT module, clear day, 75 F, 50 degree sun angle the maximum output is 68 watts. If GoalZero support wants to reach out and let me know how to improve the output, I am open to suggestions. I have the same issue with the 50 watt panel.

Better for power than nomad 100, but heavier
Originally purchased this unit for a Yeti 500. Best output I've gotten from it (based on Yeti display) is just over 90W. Today, June 7th, at 4pm US/Central in Dallas TX, on a full sun day (no clouds at all) I am getting 71W. BUT, I also recently purchased a Nomad 100 because the Boulder is so heavy. While the Boulder is providing 71W, the Nomad is providing 38W. As I have checked during different conditions, the Nomad seems pegged at a hair over 50% of the output of the Boulder (panels sitting side by side for the comparison). I will probably keep the Nomad as I got it on sale, and it's still something for camping to charge phone, etc, but it doesn't not match the Boulder briefcase. I'm giving it a "Good" rating as the price is a little high of the output, but the build quality is excellent, and the power output matches the rating.

Amazing!!!
Purchased this to power a new 12v portable fridge. Worked like a champ! Did a trial run and for almost 5-6 hours during my test my Yeti remained at 100% power thanks to the sun and the Boulder. Feels heavier than 25 pounds, but it’s heavy duty for sure. Money well spent.

Watch for hail!!!
I have been super happy with all of my Goal Zero purchases and was very surprised when I found my Boulder Briefcase shattered after some hail. They have held up to a lot, but not that.

Built like a tank
Like all Gold Zero products the Boulder 100 is built with quality in mind. The downside is you have to be a bodybuilder to carry it.

Very pleased with the output.
Purchased a Yeti 500X a few months back and decided to get a panel to go with it, mostly for outages. Used the Boulder 100 for the first time today. Cold (10 F) winter day about 10:30am and it was putting out 85 watts. It's sunny but the sun is very low in the sky so I wasn't expecting that amount of power. Very pleased. It's a bit heavy so not taking it backpacking but is very solid and seems well built.

Easy to use
Finally set off on our can life adventure! Found the Boulder briefcase easy to set up and pack away. Seems to charge our Goal Zero generator fairly well. Just have to adjust to the suns angle to get the best charge.

Off-grid life
The perfect set up for our Yeti500 battery bank. Convenient and manageable for a couple living off-grid.

Sturdy, Semi Portable, Short Cord
This is my first solar panel so I don't have much to compare this to. It's very study, dropped it out of the car a few times and kids have tumbled over it. It's fine for car camping and home use but wouldn't want this overlanding or even for a basecamp trek. Cord is very short, I guess to be part of a series of panels on an extension cord to get further from camp.

I have the boulder briefcase 100. I'm just wondering if it is waterproof? I typically connect it to my Yeti 1500 (which I know should not be exposed to elements) but can I leave the Boulder out in the rain? Thanks!

Can battery (1400) be in use and charging simultaneously?

Saw an almost answer in the Q&A section... I have a Boulder 50 set up outside, was thinking of plugging my Briefcase 100 into that and connecting the Boulder 50 to my Yeti 200x...I am guessing it might be okay, but any concerns?

How does it perform if there's some shade on the panels? For example, it may start out with full sun but over the course of the day, some shade may hit the panels. Thanks.

How can the cables at the back of the panel be replaced or spliced? My dog chewed through them.

What angle range can the panel be adjusted to? Is is a fixed angle of 40 degrees, or can it be adjusted between something like 20 and 50 degrees?

Can I leave my briefcase 200 panel in the case in the camper in the unheated garage over the winter? I usually bring it in the house, but forgot.
