Why We Like The GORE Wear GORE-TEX Paclite Jacket
Rain jackets have evolved from the days of a simple EVA shell with a hook-and-loop front, and the Gore Wear Gore-Tex Paclite Jacket sets a new standard for the cycling rain-shell. Constructed of Gore-Tex Paclite, the jacket boasts a waterproof and windproof membrane that is thin enough to pack down for on-bike carry. Enhancing breathability in rain jackets is critical. We can still become chilled by our sweat, and the Packlite helps us stay on top of high-intensity training while effectively maintaining moisture management and heat loss.
In case your ride never escapes the ominous radar, the Packlite has two external pockets to keep snacks at the ready without having to unzip the front or hunt for the jersey’s pockets. And the extended tail keeps road spray off your rear to enhance comfort and warmth.

If I could only afford one jacket.
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
Currently putting this through the paces as rain coat and wind breaker on a 1500 mile tour including the High Country Route. Perfect compromise in weight between packability and performance in cooler weather. For comparison, I also have a heavier Showers Pass for winter commuting and a superlightweight POC for warmer rides. The Paclite fills the medium. If I could only afford one jacket - this would be it.

GORE Wear Paclite Jacket Does its Duty
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I took some time choosing this jacket over the Gore-Tex Torrent or Shake-Dry for a couple reasons. I wanted a basic waterproof jacket even though I value the ability to stow a jacket during the ride as the Shake-Dry will do. The Torrent jacket seems quite similar, only slightly more expensive. In the end all I really wanted was something waterproof and not too baggy, I have done a number of rides in every kind of wet and this jacket does the job. It will keep you warm and dry with a single long sleeve layer in 40 degree rain and can be stuffed in a pocket (more or less) if it gets sunny. Sleeves are plenty long enough with Velcro closures for over or under gloves. Right entry rear pocket is fine but zip chest pocket is better for grabbing a gel or bar without fussing around. I bought a Small I exchanged that for an XS and still have ample room for layering. I can wear this guy from mid 50's to sub freezing and be comfortable so I consider it a great piece bang-for-the-buck-wise.
