At the very least, a great wind breaker.

I live in the Pacific Northwest. That means wind and rain in the 40s are common when it's not summer - and sometimes when it is. The GORE spirit jacket is a solid piece of kit. It keeps me warm (with a sweat-soaked layer or two under it) and I have ridden in pouring rain and water did bead up on the arms and didn't seem to soak through - but it was also brand-spanking new, so we'll see if it maintains that type of weather protection or not. I wear this jacket pretty tight so I don't get wind flap. There aren't vented pits, so despite the Goretex labeling, I'm not sure that it breathes that well. I regulate the heat with the front zipper, which can tun it into a sail/balloon. As it gets colder I'll probably just be glad to be warm. Initially, I ordered a L and tried SM and M well. I usually wear L, but went with the medium to avoid the aforementioned flappage. (40" chest, 34 waist with long arms) Time will tell how our relationship progresses, but right now it's lovely. This should probably be a $75 jacket vs. $100+. It's not actually legit Goretex, but one of their water-resistant variants, so don't expect the world. Overall, it's a nice, well made jacket that is doing the job that my legit hooded Goretex jacket does at a cheaper price-and it looks good. FOUR STARS!
