Why We Like The Gregory Zulu 45L Backpack

Built for overnight backpacking trips, Gregory's Zulu 45L Backpack puts comfort forward. The ventilated back panel creates open space that aerates our back and lets heat escape while the FreeFloat suspension flexes with our body for a comfortable, body-hugging fit that's designed to prevent chafing. We like the large U-Zip opening for easy access to our gear and also like all the external pockets that Gregory packed into the Zulu—the extra-large zippered hip belt pockets, front stretch-mesh pocket, dual mesh side pockets, and top zippered pocket on the floating lid. That gives us plenty of places to stuff our gear for an overnight backpacking trip to our favorite forest, mountain, or park. The 45-liter pack can carry up to 40 pounds, but it's best for overnight trips with less gear to pack.

A good upgrade from a Zulu 35

I wanted a slightly larger pack for winter as I end up carrying more things, and this fits the bill! It has a different design compared to the Zulu 35, and the pouches and pockets are slightly different, but overall, this makes it easier to use. I did notice that the glasses holder on the shoulder strap has been deleted, which is a shame, but overall, this is a great pack to add to the gear closet and trails!

perfect beginner or experienced backpacking pack

The pack was awesome, lots of easy access and love the front fold out zip to get anywhere in your pack easily. Even though it’s a 45L pack, for someone with all ultralight gear, it’s perfect for multi night or just one. Pack was also super comfortable on my back and hips!

Great comfortable pack…Where’s the rain cover???

I’ve had the smaller 30L version of this pack for years and have been very happy with it. My wife and son just purchased, on closeout, last years 40L Zulu and we were very impressed with the size of the side and hip belt pockets along with a very comfortable suspension system. In addition, they came with an included rain cover. In order to get the size I needed, I ordered this year’s “upgraded” 45L version. Unfortunately, this great pack no longer comes with a rain cover. What gives?

I Do not recommend Gregory Zulu 45

Love the pack but the chest strap is cheaply made. Wish I had checked the reviews before purchasing . I definitely do not recommend this product. I also have the the Jade 38 and pray that the strap is better made than the Zulu 45

Solid pack, carry’s weight well. Runs a little small but adjustable.

Zulu 45 chest strap broken

The clip for adjusting chest strap height snapped off first time adjusting it, can't find replacement clips which is crazy seeing as it is made so flimsy. Very dissatisfied

Pack

Needed a bigger pack to haul all my stuff to mountain for ski patrol. This packs holds lots, love that I can access it via the zipper. adjustable and comfortable. Time will tell if it holds up

Wow!!

I’ve had Osprey bags in the past and just recently bought a Kelty bag that I returned. I came across the Zulu during my search, which definitely peaked my interest. Local store had one and I got the chance to try both Osprey and Zulu packs on in the store, all I can say is it really wasn’t a tough decision. I don’t have anything bad to say about Osprey packs, but, for me, the Zulu was in another league. I highly recommend, you won’t be disappointed!!
