Why We Like The HOKA Zinal 2 Shoe
When we are looking to enhance our performance on the trail, the HOKA Zinal 2 Shoe is a good start. Featuring a lightweight construction and a breathable synthetic upper, the Zinal 2 Shoe is ready to put in the miles. A new stretch knit collar helps to keep debris out of our shoes, and an EVA midsole cushions our feet and helps to reduce fatigue. The Zinal2 Shoes feature a Vibram outsole that deploys their Megagrip tread compound and incorporates Vibram's Litebase and Traction Lugs for excellent grip on all trail conditions. 5mm lugs dig into the dirt for enhanced traction, and the shoe is made with recycled materials for an environmentally friendly construction.

2 weeks of walking. Signs of wear. Logo falling off.
Extremely disappointed. These shoes cost way too much for this type of wear. No exaggeration. Literally 2 weeks exactly. Walking only. No runs yet. Light trails. Already show signs of wear. Strips and small chunks of midsole completely fallen off. Dark scuff marks (from what?) on toe caps. HOKA label literally peeling off like a decal. Will be returning. Likely move to another brand. I need shoes that last for at least a reasonable amount of time. Buyer beware.

Too hot, too many blisters
After 90 miles.. Good: Lightweight, snug fit, good foam.. Bad: Not breathable at all, laces poor, 5mm lugs too much, toe bumper like nothing.. Notice the description from Hoka does not mention breathable, they get really hot.. Consistently blisters after 6 miles, so these are regulated to short park runs on soft grass, turf. Lugs are peggy, poke into the feet on longer attempts, hard terrain.. If Hoka could improve air flow, lower lugs to 3.5mm, make toe bumper better, it would hit the bullseye..

Don't knock them until you try them...
I had the original Zinals and when these came out I was protesting why would they change these. I wasn't going to buy the Zinal2 but I did and these things Rock and without any rocks getting in your shoes. The sock fit is great and these fit like a glove. They are comfortable, rugged and I think perform better than the original Zinal. And they are light weight which makes a difference on trail runs. I bought a half size up and they fit really good and I have a wider foot.

couldn't tell the fit around the ankle from the pictures... not very comfortable at all. i'm a huge hoka fan but wont buy this model again

Love this shoe.
I needed a new pair of shoes to tackle the Imogene pass trail race a few weeks ago and bought a pair of these Zinals. Great fit, light weight, and excellent traction.

Same old problem
Looks great, feels incredibly light, and is plush without feeling unstable. Yet, Hoka just can't seem to figure out how to produce a true to size shoe, particularly in the toe box. After three short runs and less than 15 miles, I gave them away to a friend.

Great choice
I bought these for my grandson that works as a patient care technician at a hospital. He walks around constantly for his 12 hour shift. He loves these shoes and said they are working great. He is very picky shoe person so I'm glad these are comfortable.

So close to fantastic
There are many things to love about this shoe. Aggressive tread, light supple and durable upper, light weight, comfortable drop... On paper this is my perfect shoe as it easily doubles between a race shoe and a daily driver. The reality unfortunately is that there are a few shortcomings of this shoe that are hard to overlook, but if changed in V3 could make a truly fantastic shoe. Here are the things I would love to see updated: 1. Laces - the round laces cut into the top of the foot and don't stay tight leaving the shoe feeling either painfully tight, or mushy leaving toes hitting the sides and end of the shoe as the foot slides forward descending. Good news on this one, it's a cheap easy fix that makes the shoe 10x better just swapping to a flat lace. 2. Heel cup - Partially due to the original round lace, but more due to the limited lacing eyelet options my heel refuses to stay put solidly in the heel cup. The overall shape is decent, just doesn't have anything keeping it anchored back into the pocket. Even with an aftermarket insole, and the swapped flat lace it's not perfect leaving my toes with some rub spots after long descents despite 1cm+ in front of the toes when the heel is at the back. 3. The lug pattern of the outsole while being very grippy in most terrain has a tendency to hold mud and not clear between strides. I attribute this to the small spiky prominences added on the sides of the lugs. This adds grip, especially in grass which is great, but not worth the caked mud in my opinion. 4. The responsive foam in this shoe does not match the feel of other Hoka responsive shoes. The underfoot feel of the Zinal 2 is closer to the Speedgoat than it is to the TectonX. I would love to see the foam layup revamped slightly to have a little more energy/firmness in the toe off. Maybe the TectonX 2 and Zinal 2 can have a mashup for V3?! Overall I will keep running in these but won't be buying a second pair sadly.
