Why We Like The KEEN Targhee IV Mid WP Hiking Boot

When the trail is more mud than dirt, and there's more rain in the forecast, we trust the KEEN Targhee IV Mid WP Hiking Boot to keep our feet dry and stable over slippery terrain. The KEEN.DRY waterproof membrane repels mud and water as we pick our way across ruts and roots, keeping our socks dry the entire way. The KEEN.RUGGED sole provides excellent traction, giving us excellent grip as we scramble over wet rocks, and the heel capture system and stability shank keep our foot secure so we can trust each step on our way to the summit.

I've had 2 pairs of

I've had 2 pairs of Targhee II's. This is my first pair of Targhee IV's. They look great and fit well. I've only worn them a few times but the feel great and look like they won't delaminate , as happened with the Targhee II. I am wll satisfied.

Keeps your feet hot and or cold.

I have had two pairs of these. The first pair delaminated the sole. Keen replaced them under their warranty which was great. However, these boots are not good for summer or winter. The waterproof lining holds in the heat and makes your feet sweat. In the winter the liner holds in the cold air and keeps your feet cold through out the day.

Usually get a wide fit

Usually get a wide fit shoe in everything. I didn’t need to for the targhee IV. . Very comfy, yet feels very solid under foot.

So far so good

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my third pair of Targhee boots. So far so good. Like many I experienced the toe delamination with prior versions. I have had the Targhee IV for a few weeks and I like them. They are stiff but getting worked in. The heel area is a bit roomier than the previous versions. I am adding a heel cup which I hope will help.

Runs large

Boot runs about half to an entire size larger than actual size.

Some improvements and some downgrades

After wearing the Targhee III’s for years I decided to try the IV’s. I’ve worn the IV’s for about 5 months now. I like that the IV’s fit just like the III’s on me and are comfortable to wear. The fusion technology is great and seems to work well so far. The laces on the IV’s seem slippery and loosen really easily when trying to tie them. Not a big deal but just an annoyance. My biggest complaint about the new IV’s is the new Keen Rugged outsole. I understand that they wanted a more durable longer lasting sole but it’s also really hard and has zero impact cushioning like the old Targhee’s. They are hard as a rock and very slippery in the winter when it’s below freezing. I walk our dogs every day around our neighborhood with the IV’s on and it sounds like I’m wearing leather sole boots. They are so hard that I started getting pain in my heals and shins. I even tried better insoles that only helped slightly. I never had a problem with the old Targhee III’s in the winter. I like everything else about the IV’s, but the new Rugged soles are a downgrade in my opinion. I’d rather have soles that wear out a little faster and aren’t hard as a rock in the winter when I wear the boots the most.

Targhee IV Waterproof

Love the shoes. Disappointed in the shoelaces. They don’t want to stay tied. I’d buy them again though.

Good hiking boot but slippery soles

These boots are very comfortable and great for hiking. Love the toe box to protect toes when inadvertently kicking rocks along the trail. My only issue with these boots is that they are poor on wet surfaces; especially wet rocks, as the boots easily slide out. Soles may be solid but they are slippery.

Much more durable than the 3

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So far, 100 miles useage, these 4s are great. . . all day comfortable, and the design appears sturdy. . . Looking forward to sharing my experience after more utilization time, but so far completely satisfied. . . thanks Keen
