Top value budget tent

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I bought this tent to use as an easy, affordable part of my car camping setup, and it serves its purpose well The tent is easy to set up and take down quickly. The materials and construction are sturdy. The rain fly goes on and off easily, keeps the tent rigid and stable in wind, and the tent stays dry, warm, and free of condensation under the fly. I slept through some rain without issue. The vestibule is modest. Not a problem for me since I car camp and only stash my shoes in the vestibule while I sleep, but there wouldn't be much extra room in there to rummage through a multi day backpack, let alone two people's packs. It would work, but if you know you like extra space there isn't much to spare here. The included stakes are pretty sturdy for base level stakes, I haven't bent any of them during setup (I use a hammer) and they held well in wind. I don't feel like I need to upgrade them for my purposes at this point. One thing before buying for yourself, be aware of the dimensions of the tent and know how much space you need, this tent might not provide it for you. It is advertised as a two person tent, but there is only just enough room for me to be comfortable, I am 6'1, 200lbs and I use a 3" thick sleeping pad, and due to the angle of the tent walls my head or toes just slightly touch the walls when I fully stretch out. I used my friends grand mesa 2 before my purchase and knew what I was getting and it works for me, but if you are taller or use a taller sleeping setup or sleep with another person/dog/gear or like to do something other than lay down and sleep in your tent, you might consider a tent with a bigger footprint All in all, the tent is very practical and functional for the price point. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything for what I paid.

Does not suck

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought this tent for a motorcycle trip. It fit in my sissy bar bag and set up was nice and easy, It held up to some light rain and did not get everything soaked. Was affordable, from a reputable brand, and had a nice small size packed up.

Have not had the tent out on a trip yet but did set it up just to check it out. Very easy setup and all but the poles seemed to be well made. The poles I don’t expect them to hold up, just not impressed with them so I’ve already ordered some replacements.

This is my 4th Kelty tent, love all of them, durable and has never leaked during a rain storm. You can't beat Kelty for the money.

A Little Disappointed

I bought this tent on Cyber Monday 2021 to use for Kayak Camping this coming summer. I have not used it, but I have set it up just to make sure there aren't any major defects. I understood when I purchased the tent that it wouldn't be a true bathtub floor, but it was fully seam sealed. Since Kelty is supposed to be a better brand, I still expected the floor itself to be one piece even if there were seams between the floor & the sides. I was surprised to find a seam running from side to side across the tent closer to the foot end. It's sealed, but still a disappointment. If they're trying to sell more footprints, then it's working since I have already decided to purchase one before my first trip. Another thing that was disappointing were the tent pole clips. They were not the twist-style clips that were advertised on every website I used to research this tent. Additionally, there are not 2 clips anchoring the peak as advertised. Instead there is only one clip at the peak & it is the same style as the rest of the pole clips. While it's the same clip system as other Kelty tents such as the Late Start, this very much seems like an update made to cheapen up the production process. I am going to keep the tent & hope for the best since I got a good deal on it & I will not be an extremely heavy user.

Great Replacement Tent

My old Kelty 4 man purchased in 1998 finally bit the dust it was an awesome tent. Eventually the rain fly kept sticking to itself and I couldn't remedy it. 22 years, not a bad run. Anyways... I've taken the new one here on a few canoe camping trips and it's awesome! A little tight for 2 people but roomy for 1. I'm amazed how tents have evolved and for the price, you can't beat it. It's so easy and fast to set up/ take down. Lots of ventilation excellent for summer camping. Probably too heavy for backpacking but excellent for canoeing or car camping!
