Spyfire Hooded Down Jacket

When you're looking for active insulation, too often it feels like you need to choose between a piece that's actually active and one that's actually insulated. With the Kuhl Spyfire Hooded Down Jacket you'll have the best of both worlds for all of your cold-weather alpine adventures. It's got a got a contoured 3D fit with thermal body mapping, giving you a larger baffle construction in the core for warmth where you most need it, and smaller side baffles for reduced bulk, easy layering, and better movement. The side baffles also aren't quite so toasty, which, along with stretchy and breathable knit panels, provides a comfortable warmth that won't leave you ripping off layers as soon as you get above a brisk walk.

The front body is constructed with a durable windproof nylon to ensure that cold blasts of air don't stop you in your tracks, while the shoulders are made with a softshell-reinforced fabric to prevent tearing and snagging when you're lugging skis, ropes, or other abrasive equipment further up the mountain. You've got all of this with DWR (Durable Water Resistant) protection from light rain and moderate snowfall, as well as a multi-adjustment hood to quickly toss over a beanie when you need added warmth on early mourning touring sessions.

Smart looking, warm "all arounder"

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Coming from a Cotopaxi Fuego jacket but wanted something hooded, and got a good deal on this. It's similar in warmth to the Fuego but less bulky and the cut is awesome. Cross shopped with with Patagonia, Marmot, Mountain Hardware etc. but I am often "between sizes" with these brands. Since this jacket has an athletic cut, I could sized up for a perfect, non-boxy fit. It's my new favorite daily driver for winter around town, walking the dog etc. Perfect for 20-50F For more technical wear, I'd probably choose layers anyway like wool, non-down etc. For temps below 20F I switch to a Patagonia Macro Puff Parka.

QUALITY Jacket -- NEVER RECEIVED

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Size Bought:
Large

When I ordered this jacket, Backcountry sent it to my old address instead of my updated address. I have worn this jacket before, and without question it is a quality jacket. I was really looking forward to it. Hard to believe that Backcountry's ordering system didn't sent it to the right address. Disappointed to say the least. Yes, for the record Backcountry did provide a refund to my original order.

Warm.. especially with layers. Wouldn't run through a briar patch with this jacket but that's not why I bought it...good looking jacket.

The jacket is very light weight yet offers amazing warmth in the low teens. The style and fit is perfect. I'm 5'6, 155 lbs and size small fits perfectly. Very highly recommended!!!

I needed something for cold mornings and winter hikes, also for night time dog walks... This fit my needs! I love this jacket. It fits great, its functional, there is plenty of storage, with 5 exterior pockets and one internal large pocket for a hat or gloves. Additionally, the fit and feel of the material and functionality is amazing. the armpits have nylon stretch material which is great for movement and comfort. Kuhl's makes great stuff, I wear there pants all the time and they hold up to my busy and rough life, very accident prone dad of three. This jacket is holding up great, after one season it still looks new after a wash following the instructions to the letter. I highly recommend it, price wise it is expensive, but considering its goose down and its not cut like a bag and has high functionality its worth it. I also plan to wear it for many seasons because I expect it to last.
