Why We Like The La Sportiva Futura Climbing Shoe
La Sportiva's Futura Climbing Shoe brings with it a lot of "new." The improved Fast Lacing System now features reinforcement for lasting performance that helps us squeeze out dead space in seconds. When we're throwing a heel, the new, narrower heel pattern works with the slingshot rand to boost our precision, and the toe patch increases our security when we're hooking a toe. Whether we're pushing our grade or clipping up well-traveled routes, the No-Edge technology and Vibram XS Grip2 rubber allow us to stick to the worst, greasiest holds, giving us newfound confidence in our feet, while the rounded toe more evenly distributes wear to last longer before needing a resole.

LACING SYSTEM FAILS + NO WARRANTY
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I got these shoes for my 10-year-old son in October. Less than 2 months later in December, after exclusively climbing indoors at a gym with smooth walls, the lace straps broke. See photos. Here's where it gets crazy. I submitted photos and documentation to La Sportiva's Warranty Department and was told "The worn out strap on this pair is considered wear and tear, which is not covered under warranty by La Sportiva. It is caused by excessive abrasion against the wall or rock to that area of the shoe. You can see the signs of scraping and abrasion to the metal eyelet grommet that the strap runs through. We recommend having your shoes repaired by a cobbler that can sew the strap back together." Basically, LS is saying that the strap failed because it was rubbing against the metal grommet which became abrasive after getting scratched up, and LS is recommending that I get the strap sewn up. But, this doesn't make sense on multiple levels. FIRST, if the scratched up grommet is what caused the strap to fail, then a sewn up strap isn't going to last either. TWO, climbing inherently involves scuffs and scratches on shoes, and LS is admitting that their lacing system is prone to failure once the metal grommets get scratched up. After multiple back and forths, LS refused to cover this under warranty and reiterated, "This is considered NORMAL. There is no implied lifespan of a shoe, due to the variables that can affect footwear. In this case, abrasion to the cloth strap material has led to failure. This is considered wear and tear rather than a manufacturing defect." Mind-blown...
