Why We Like The G2 Evo Mountaineering Boot
The G2 Evo is La Sportiva's ultimate thermal gaiter boot built for extreme mountaineering in low temperatures. It's heavily insulated with a felt-insulated inner boot and removable foam liner, and the Cordura+ stretchy gaiter protects the insulation with rugged abrasion- and water-resistance, and Ultrasonic Welding gives the gaiter a seamless design for greater weather protection. The inner boot is also made of Cordura+ for longlasting durability, and it's four-layer constructed with felt insulation and an aluminum layer that bounces body heat back. A removable liner insulated with EVA adds even more warmth, and it has a flex zone to ensure easy mobility up the mountain. Underfoot, the G2 Evo has a carbon midsole to maintain torsional rigidity without much weight. Vibram's rubber sole ensures traction worthy of the Matterhorn, and it's compatible with automatic crampons.

Boots bought were not new, terrible CX
Bad experience with the product and with Backcountry. Bought the boots and they arrived with clear previous use. Sent them back and requested a refund, since I disliked the fit. The company policy says 3-5 business days for refunds, yet I had to call after 6 biz days, since apparently no one had sent a refund. Very negative experience with Backcountry

hurt ankle bone, tight toe box

Not covering any new ground here but, as predicted, this wasn't a great fit for me with wide feet. I tried both this and the Scarpa Phantom 6000 and those were soooo much more comfortable. It's a shame because these boots seemed potentially warmer (or at the very least, had a stiffer/beefier inner boot) and I loooooved the BOA system. But fit comes first.

Way too narrow for my feet and calves
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I like the look of them, but they are just too narrow for my feet. I have size 10 1/2 wide feet and with the lining inside my little toes were completely numb in about 10 minutes of walking. So i took them out and realized ill need about 3 layers of socks to not totally destroy my feet. The boa strips are really nice and do keep you secure but it seems like one extreme or the other with these. The zip up abrasion covers are an absolute pain, everything has to be lined up just perfectly or you just about rip the zipper off. I have pretty large calves naturally and I was about all these boots wanted. I know I sound like I'm just knocking these boots into the dirt here, but when you pay almost 1000 dollars for something it should be just about perfect.

Did the job very well, comfort an issue

I used these to climb Lobuche next to Everest base camp. This was fixed-rope climb on varied terrain including rock, packed snow and ice with crampons. I also trained in these but mostly on stairmasters at a gym but a little on flat terrain. I love the overall fit although I did have to buy a size and a half larger than my normal shoe size and a half size larger than my normal trekking boot. Getting my large foot (US size 13) in and out is not the easiest but certainly possible. The boa adjustments are very nice. After 11 hours climbing up and down I will say I was happy to change into my normal trekking boots. I understand the need for stiffness - and it certainly made climbing easier and more comfortable - but for just normal walking/hiking it is too much. The crampon attachment was easy and the fit was secure. Overall I would highly recommend these for the purpose of climbing.

heel pocket too big for me

This boot seems warm and light for a double boot but the heel pocket was way too big for me. I tried different sock thickness's and no matter how I cranked down on the boa knobs I could not get the heel lift to a tolerable level. I have the G5 sm in the same size and the heel lift and overall fit in that boot is manageable but not in this G2 evo. Back it goes. I guess I will stick with my aging Spantiks for now. I don't really want to give it a star rating since the boot doesn't fit and if it fits you maybe you will like it but the software requires it.
