Why We Like The Nucleo High II GTX Boot
The La Sportiva Nucleo High II GTX Boot braves nasty weather on muddy trails, and it's comfortably versatile enough for hiking in warmer, dryer conditions, too. We appreciate its GORE-TEX waterproofing laminated to a durable leather upper, and the flex zone around the ankle that allows greater mobility. Underfoot, a solid combination of cush EVA and Vibram rubber keeps us comfortably sure-footed on all trails.

This is the first boot in my 50 years of hiking that have worked very well in all hiking conditions without giving me blisters!!! Every leather or other lightweight boot I've used have given me serious blisters within an hour out on the trail carrying a heavy pack. I tried every sock, lacing combination and nothing has worked. These boots are 2 lbs. lighter than my leather boots and the Vibram soles are the best and sticky soles that I've worn. Just returned from a camping trip carrying a 52 lb. pack (had to bring in water) and my feet are blister free and happy. Good ankle support. The lacing system is good and thoughtful. Very comfortable boot with an option insole that I added. I stood in a stream for 5 minutes and not a drop inside. After a long day hiking my socks only had a minimun amout of dampness in them which is normal in any boot. Way to go La Sportiva!

I have weak ankles from years of soccer and need supportive boots. These are a rare find these days, as they are day hikers with high ankle support. I had used Vasque Sundowners for years but they just weren't cutting it anymore. At first I ordered a pair of Mammut Duncan High GTX which were incredibly supportive and I wanted so badly to keep them because of that but they were just too narrow for my troll feet. So on to my first pair of La Sportivas These gave me that instant feeling of stepping into clouds. A boot that fits from the first moment you stick your feet in. These are wide enough for me yet still wrap up my ankles enough to feel confident on tricky terrain. The Mammut's do have this unique wrapping on the upper section that was superior but I guess you can't have everything. Also, the La Sportivas lace eyes on the upper section are a bit annoying because I like to lace from above to hold the knot better and I can't do that with these - but I can adapt. I've only done about 20 miles in these so far but after each hike or forage, my dogs aren't barking! So happy with these.

The build quality seems great, and they look fantastic. I bought it for its waterproofness, but I never got out of the indoor testing phase. It is extremely uncomfortable to wear and I had to order three sizes above my normal to be able to handle the width of my feet. My normal size (they are European sizes only, I am in North America) wasn't fitting at all and hurt my feet. I ordered three different sizes over the course of a month. I normally am a 44, but I order 45 and 44.5 with no satisfaction. They are too narrow in width, but primarily too short in terms of the height of one's foot. It would hurt the skin on the top of my foot, and the heel and toes wouldn't touch in sizes that fit my foot width. I have wider feet than normal, but not massively so. I returned all sizes, since every single one hurt my feet in slightly different ways. I would only recommend if your feet are very short, long in length, and narrow in width. Like a turkey or cassowary foot is what I ended up telling people in person.
