Why We Like The La Sportiva TX4 Evo Mid GTX Approach Shoe
The TX4 Evo Mid GTX adds ankle collars and more eco-friendly materials to one of La Sportiva's signature approach shoes for added stability on technical approaches. This hybrid approach shoe/hiking boot features plenty of foot protection with its leather uppers, mid-cut support, and rubber rand and toe cap while its climb-oriented Vibram Megagrip outsoles showcase shallow lugs and extra bite in the heel for better rock scrambling and braking on steep descents. The "Evo" designation refers to more environmentally friendly materials, including PFC-free GORE-TEX ePE waterproofing and recycled materials in the laces, lining, rand, and toe cap.

Great boots
- Size Bought:
- 44
I totally love these boots! I am an avid rock climber so I like to have the climbing rubber on the sole even when just hiking. They do run very small. I wear a 9 1/2 - 10 After a return of the size 10 I wound up with an 11 and they fit perfectly. Definitely go a full size up

I’m a woman, and I prefer a shoe with ankle support and the men’s color. So after reading the reviews from the men and trying the shoe myself.. I can see how their complaints of the shoe being stiff and narrow as valid. Probably wouldn’t suggest for men. But for WOMEN and as a size 43 (US 10 in women’s) with a narrow foot I think it’s a good approach shoe. The ankle can be tight if you tighten the straps but can be solved if you loosen it. Hiked 5miles on incline up and down and felt good.

Very painful
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Bought these to replace my old pair (original tx4 mid gtx). They are narrower and extremely painful to wear. Tried multiple sizes. The shoe is also a lot stiffer, I can’t imagine climbing in them. No longer an approach shoe but an uncomfortable hiking boot.

Changed fit from previous tx4

This would have been my 5th pair of tx4's (3rd of the mid). I'm sorely disappointed in La Sportiva for changing the fit of one of the most beloved pieces of alpine (and everyday) footwear. If you're considering these based on your previous experience (fit) then I DO NOT recommend. The new Evo is a bit stiffer (welcome change), but somehow La Sportiva managed to make a shoe with a sloppy heel cup and a cramped (narrow) toe box. Great for all those wide heeled, skinny toed alpinists out there.
