Best Trail-Running Shoes EVEEEEERRRR!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I'm a former marathoner that loves running. For the sake of my knees, I only run trails now--no pavement. These are the BEST trail runners! I also use them a lot while doing photography for my job in the backcountry if I'm not mountain-climbing. I've just bought my third pair!!! My first pair still looks great, but I put a LOT of miles on my running shoes, so over time, the cushioning wears out. Then they are great for hiking, walking, etc., but not for running if you have sensitive knees. My friends clamor for my old ones bc they still look so good and make great walking and hiking shoes. Pros: *Great arch support *AH MAZ ING all-round cushioning to save my ankles and knees. In fact, it's this aspect that tells me when it's time to buy a new pair bc my knees start to complain around the 500 mile mark. *PHENOMENAL grip...I can stand on a giant 45 degree angle boulder that's wet, wearing a 30 lb pack, and these shoes hold me steady while I'm photographing *Really nice drop for maximum comfort and performance running *The different lacing options at the ankle ensure a perfect and comfortable fit for your foot *Roomy toebox *Water repellant (as long as the snow doesn't go over the tops of the shoes :-)) *I've washed mine (line dry afterwards) and they clean up really well--just remove the Ortholite pad first *The tread design naturally releases mud and stuff, so you don't have to worry about cleaning off the bottoms after a particularly wild run *They hold up superbly, so even after 500 miles, they are still great for hiking, walking, etc. Cons: Are they being discontinued? Ohhhhh the humanity!!! Note: I normally wear a 7-7.5 in dress shoes, sandals and such, but I size up in my running and hiking footwear bc feet (and muscles) swell as you work. So the 39.5 is perfect for me. I have a very high arch, and a foot that narrows in the middle a lot, but is normal width at the heel and front--so it's kind of hourglass shaped. I love that this shoe has a wide enough toe box for me, yet still narrows enough in the middle to conform to my foot. That's hard to find. If you have really narrow feet all over, especially at the toes, then this shoe probably wouldn't be the best choice for you. Final note, these are EXTREMELY grippy. Most shoes you can turn your body and knees, and your shoes/feet will follow. These will NOT! They are made to grip in all terrain, and not let go.

Maybe the right shoe for someone else

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Size Bought:
10. My typical size.

Bought these based on a number of “best of” and “editors’ pick” reviews. Was drawn to touted stability and sensitivity. Oh well, they are neither stable nor responsive and do not fit to size, running a half size too large - at least for me. My feet are sliding in them. The soles do seem grippy - would be if they fit better. I gave three stars because they do seem well made but I would only try on at a shop, not chance online purchase. I’ve worn them four times on a medium to rugged trail.

My go to trail shoe

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
41.5

This is my second pair of this style. Good fit, support, comfort. I have narrow feet. Street shoe is 8 1/2 narrow. I own another pair of this same shoe and when these went on sale I decided to purchase a second pair. I upped my size from 41 to 41.5 and find that is better fit. Though a little wider as a result, the extra toe length is better for me. I have tried on multiple La Sportiva running shoes styles, for my foot this fits me the best. My needs: slight pronation, narrow, "normal" foot with slightly arch. I use one pair for work (I stand all day) one pair for the road.

Best Walking Shoe Ever

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
10 (have a narrow foot)

This is my second pair of Ultra Raptor II. This shoe is like putting your foot in the finest and best fitting "glove" you will ever find. I frequently forget that I have it on. I am 80 years old and I walk 2 miles a day. This is what I wear every time I leave the house.

Great shoe for support and wide fore foo

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
37.5

I have bunions and flat feet which makes it hard to buy shoes. In the ultra raptors, I have finally found a shoe that takes care of both.

Best shoe

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
41
Height:

Weight:

I purchased these first in the black men’s gortex for work-I am a mail carrier. My feet have not yet been wet. So comfortable. I came back and bought another pair for hiking non gortex and LOVE THEM. They are a little narrow which for me is perfect as I have a long narrow foot. The rubber grippy on the bottom wears a little on pavement (my gortex ones) but have not had any issues with my blue trail pair.

Runs narrow in toe box

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Wow. This is a beautiful shoe in Ink/Topaz and the quality of construction is impressive. I am a US size 8 in all my hiking/running shoes and the 39.5 fit perfectly. Except. When I ordered another pair as backup the toe box was so narrow it hurt went I tried it on! Too tight to even contemplate trying to stretch them out. Don't know if that was a one off defect or maybe the pair that fit were just made a bit wider in the toe box. I also bought the same shoe in the GTX model and it had the same fit defect, too narrow in the toe box. I have average feet, not wide, and high arches. On the positive side, the pair that fit have good arch/heel support, amazing stability, flexibility, and COMFORT! Would have happily kept all 3 if not for the narrow fit problem. May try to find them again in a store so I can check the fit first. Otherwise, great trail shoes for a more narrow foot.
