Why We Like The Lake MX242 Endurance Wide Cycling Shoe
Built to accommodate even the hardest-to-fit foot shapes, the Lake MX242 Endurance Wide Cycling Shoe is a high-performance 2-bolt cleat-compatible shoe for all of our off-road adventures. Six independent leather panels and two BOA Li2 dials allow the upper to conform to our foot, whether we're dealing with major bunions or just a really wide foot. From tackling our next gravel century to toeing the line at an endurance XC race, the carbon fiber sole is there to deliver maximum power transfer so we can keep the pedals turning on the toughest of climbs, and when things get too steep or loose to ride up, the rubber outsole gives us enough grip to hike our bike up to the top.

Not wide at all
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Size Bought:
- 45.0
Sorry, but there's nothing wide about these. Build quality is fine but these are supposed to be some of the widest shoes out there, that is how they are advertised, and there is nothing special about the width. Even with the flexible material it is still a width aggravation and that flexible material I'm sure is somewhat durable but not as durable as any non-mesh outer. I found the Pearl Izumi X- Alp Summit much wider and retails for only $150. I'm not trying to dog out this shoe too heavy but everything I'm stating is in my opinion completely accurate. See attached image compared to the Izumi. Notice how the left toe box area of the Izumi stays wide compared to the left side of the Lake shoe, which cuts across much more diagonally. From what I understand this cutting in of the toe box is for aerodynamics, I'm just saying if you want actual width I would definitely go with the Izumi. I put the shoe on for 5 seconds and immediately it just didn't work and I returned them.

These are really pricey, but the best MTB clipless shoes I've found for wide feet.

I recently purchased the MX242 wide's and they alleviated my foot issues. I have ridden 30,000 miles in the last decade and at age 67 my foot somehow became a little wider. As such, my traditional road bike shoes gave me severe pain after 3 or 4 hours of riding, because they were too narrow and squeezed my foot. If you ever had something like this happen, it literally can suck the joy out of biking. This past weekend, I completed the Ride Across Wisconsin in the MX242 wide's. It was my fist pain-free ride in two months and I almost had a PR. I appreciate that Brian S, a Completive Cyclist personal gear head, guided me through my issues and recommended these new shoes. Great shoe for wide foot MTB racer
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- 13 W
I have had good luck w Lakes before. I didn’t want to drop 4-500 on Sidis. These are comfortable and they comform to multiple foot sizes due to the way they have strips of leather that tighten up individually. I have ridden them hard on a few 2-3 hr rides and happy with comfort.

I have been cycling on the road for years and decided to join my cycling friends on the gravel as well. These gravel shoes are very comfortable and would recommend them.
