Lake constructs the shoe from a durable microfiber upper featuring NuFoam and TeKtile. The materials offer excellent breathability, low weight, moisture management, and anti-odor properties. Dual hook-and-loop straps as well as a large heel tab allow for quick entries and exits as well as stabilizing your foot once cinched down.
The TX223 gets Lake's CX/TX Competition Last that's specifically designed for high cadence spinning and tempo riding. This Competition last features a more curved profile than its Sport last and it increases its pitch and heel lift, as well as a snugger heel and slightly wider area at the ball of the foot allowing your foot to expand as needed. Down below is Lake's 100% carbon fiber sole offering stiffness and low weight.

Comfortable and good fit
I intentionally bought tri shoes for summer rides but not triathlons (haven't done triathlons for a while, so can't review now from race/transition perspective), I just wanted to have comfy, breathable, and simple shoes but with good supportive fit. It fully met my expectations, also was attracted by both velcros outward - no crankset rubs, no cuts. Front velcro seems to be a little bit long and you can't cut it, but I have narrow feet and as mentioned it's outward, so doesn't bother me at all. Sizing: I got 43, fits the same as my old Shimano in 43, also have Sidi in 43.5 which are slightly more roomy, and my daily nike shoes are US 9.5, so sizing seems pretty standard for cycling shoes. Overall, it's well-made shoes with very stiff outsole, soft and comfy upper with good feet support.
