Why We Like The Renegade GTX Mid Wide Boot
The Men's Renegade GTX Mid Boot is Lowa's best-selling trekking boot, and with its supportive fit, versatile design, and rugged durability, it's not hard to see wide. This Wide version of the Renegade GTX is ideal for everything from arduous alpine hikes to ventures deep into the backcountry.
Monowrap construction and a stiff full-length stabilizer ensure a support and stable fit, even when you're crossing rugged terrain with a heavy pack. Gore-Tex keeps your foot dry when you're crossing shallow streams and hiking through steady drizzles, while still offering breathability so you don't overheat when the sun's beating down. Speaking of breathability, the Climate Control footbed prevents the inside of your boot from turning into a swamp. Finishing it off is a Vibram Evo outsole for traction you can count on, whether you're trekking over rocky ground, dry dirt, or slick mud.

Big on comfort, weak on durability
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
- Size Bought:
- 10 Wide
- Height:
- 5' 6"
- Weight:
- 135
I bought the 10 wide, which is what I usually get. They were a tiny bit big for me, but I was planning a multi-month trek and anticipated my feet swelling a bit. There was no real break-in period, they were comfortable from the beginning. I got Superfeet trekking insoles to replace the stock ones, which worked well. However, after only about 6 weeks of hiking the seams on both sides of the toe split open leaving gaping holes that allowed dirt and water in very easily. I was out of the country and couldn't return for a warranty right away. I ended up getting them sewn by a shoe repair guy, and so far his job has held up better than the original construction. My girlfriend got the women's 8 wide of the same model and the same thing happened to her, so I think it is just bad design to begin with. It is disappointing because otherwise they are very comfortable boots.

Wide is still too narrow
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Size Bought:
- 8.5W
I bought these online because these were the only place I could find Wide. Unfortunately, after wearing them twice my toes were blistered from being cramped in the toe box. My podiatrist told me that they are too narrow. I'm told Backcoutry only accepts returns for never worn boots. Now I'm looking for someone who needs a pair of only slightly used boots.

Stitching does not hold up
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- 11
- Weight:
- 160
Was very pleased with the boot initially. I am a relatively casual hiker and within a year the stitching along the seams started coming out, so now they are impossible to weatherproof. The leather is still in good condition and the soles are holding up nicely several years in. I am very disappointed, by this critical flaw.
