Why We Like The Mammut Barryvox S Beacon
Compared to the standard Barryvox, Mammut's Barryvox S Beacon has more advanced features that appeal to experienced mountaineers and guides. The beginner-friendly interface remains, while the larger screen displays advanced graphics, the additional buttons allow for customization, and the lithium batteries prevent corrosion to give us reliable performance when we need it most.

Perfect for guides or institutional trip leaders
I love the broader functionality of the Barryvox S while leading trips with students, however I would recommend the standard model for most consumers. Mammut market both products while, and I believe that unless you meet the specific market of this model, the standard model is the perfect beacon. Both share the same intuitive system and are not too heavy.

Great Beacon
It is way better than the black diamond beacon that I had that was recalled. The screen is very nice, and it switches modes easily.

The standard.
The Barryvox S is the standard in avy beacons. I've used them for years as gear provided by backcountry ops I've skied with, and finally pulled the trigger on my own unit. The just work. In every training session I've participated in, they outperform the beacons other guests are using. They're super intuitive for beginners, who usually need only a brief introduction to operate them very effectively. They're light and quite comfortable to wear once you figure out your gear arrangement and where you need to have it in relation to your radios and other backcountry electronics. You really can't go wrong with these.

The best you can get
Simply the best. Fool proof for basic operation, but very capable for complex searches. Love the accuracy when used in an avy recert

Great Beacon
The Mammut Barryvox S is a beacon that does exactly what it needs to. It’s simple to use, but still has advanced features like multi-burial marking that’s easy to navigate. It even has Dynamic Interference Management, which adjusts for electronic interference from phones, radios, power lines, or even GoPros. Older beacons lack this. The LCD screen is fast and accurate, and the directional indicator is super clear, making searches intuitive. It’s also loud, which is great when you’re moving quickly and need to hear the signal. Switching from send to search mode is smooth and quick. Thankfully, the search mode has only been used for beacon checks, a beacon park, and an avy training course, but it’s been solid every time. Definitely a beacon I trust.

Mammut Barry S
Great easy to use transceiver for both my professional and personal uses. The pro features are a great addition, with features like the group check which is easily accessible and multi burial close proximity functions working seamlessly. This version is more suited for pros/experts with the base model great for your average recreationaists at a cheaper price point. The advanced pro features (analog mode etc) aren't really necessary unless you're working in pro capacity or taking pro level courses.

The Best Transceiver
I've been really impressed with the overall design of this beacon. It is easy to use, and has simple but functional locking between modes. The flagging feature works much better than my previous transceiver, and the cues on the screen and on the device are really helpful tips. Hopefully I never need to use this in a stressful situation, but I trust it to perform if I ever do.
