Why We Like The Eigerjoch Pro IN Hooded Jacket

The Mammut Men's Eigerjoch Pro IN Hooded Jacket is a heavy-duty insulator that you can count on when you're mountaineering, alpine climbing, or embarking on a frigid expedition. Its innovative insulation includes light, lofty, compressible 800-fill down throughout the body, and Primaloft Gold insulation in key areas more likely get wet from weather. Primaloft Gold maintains warmth even when it gets wet, and it's supremely soft and compressible to ensue easy packing. The jacket's insulated chambers double over one another to eliminate cold spots, and each seam is sealed to retain heat and prevent moisture getting in.

Comfortable warm down jacket

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
Xl and large

I bought one for myself and one for my son, and we are using them in Tromsø Norway in the winter—above the arctic circle. We bought one size up and this was the right decision, especially to allow layering. At 0 Celsius, 32 Fahrenheit, only a shirt is necessary underneath. 10 degrees cooler and you also might want a merino wool thermal shirt. For -15 to -20 Celsius and 0 degrees Fahrenheit and below, you also probably need a fleece jacket as a 4th layer, especially in wind and snow. The jacket is very light and yet quite comfortable. Wet snow dead. It a problem for a limited time; continued wet snow might call for a Gore-tex outer layer. The big pockets are useful when you take hat and gloves off. So far so good!

You get what you pay for with Mammut

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
Large

This is the warmest jacket I have ever owned. With so many pockets, zippers, and straps, this is a must have for most anyone trying to brave the cold as anything over 40 Fahrenheit is too warm for me to wear this jacket. I am 5’10”, with average build and ordered a large and it has enough room for warm winter clothes underneath without feeling constricted. I have purchased 3 jackets from Mammut and this is my favorite. Feels like wearing a warm fluffy hug that can handle any elements.

Mammut lover.

Warm, but terribly fragile

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Size Bought:
M
Height:
5' 10"
Weight:
155

While the aesthetics, weight and warmth of the product are impressive, the outer shell is unnecessarily delicate. Within one week of wearing the jacket, it was cut open by a relatively dull piece of fencing that I lightly brushed up against while opening it. I honestly don't know how this could be worn for any activities beyond walking outdoors - in clearance from anything remotely sharp. While I wanted to love the jacket, neither the manufacturer nor Backcountry was able to assist me with a replacement product. The outer shell's material is also so thin that a simple sew job would cause more damage to the product, than provide a solution to the original tear.

Amazingly warm and well made jacket!! Comfortable material on the cuff, convenient pockets, stuffs down reasonably given the size/warmth.

Great belay jacket

No real problems with it. There are probably warmer options out there with higher fill, but this one is great down in the negatives or above tree line with serious wind chill.

Overkill? Nah.

I recently had a similar (but 10 years older) puffy stolen which needed to be replaced for frigid morning walks with the dogs. I took them out for about 45 minutes at -5°F with a light cotton long-sleeve on under this; I was getting hot when I was in the sun! I see this as a wonderful belay/ski race parent/dog walking jacket, really anything that forces you to be pretty stationary in temperatures at or below 0°F. It was a godsend after the New Year's polar plunge. I would likely use this for active pursuits under -15°F, maybe -20°F. It's pretty bulky, but not really when you consider the extreme warmth it brings.

I feel like a walrus wrapped in blubber. This thing is warm. I have packed it in my backcountry ski bag and it fits but is a little bulky. For me it's fine as I'm not hyper focused on shaving weight and/or bulk because my tours aren't usually incredibly long. Ultimately this jacket is very warm. I'm 5'11" and about 165 pounds and went with a medium. I am usually a medium with most upper body clothing and this fits pretty spot on but maybe a shade tight if you layer a lot underneath which probably you don't have to since this is so warm.

Exceptional Puffy Built For the Winter

In below zero Temps with a midlayer and sweater underneath I kept very warm and at times was sweating underneath. Quality materials and a must add to any arsenal. Also layers well under my mammut hardshell.

Super Warm Puffy Great for Mountain Adventure

Bought this because I was looking for a great belay puffy for ice climbing in Kyrgyzstan. It was super warm and cozy, packs down really well into sack it comes with. Has loads of pockets so perfect for taking it up a wall. Def too warm if not used in a cold environment or mountain so I probably wouldn't get it for city use. Highly recommended for the price, fit, usability, and warmth. Only regret is getting the orange color. Color is great for the mountains but very bright for daily use. I will wear it anywhere but definitely high viz energy lol
