Why We Like The Tungsten Tent
When we plan on spending days pedaling rolling roads, we pack along Marmot's Tungsten Tent. The shorter folded pole length slips easily inside our panniers, while the strategic clip placement gives us extra headroom for when rainy days have us reading rather than riding.

1P Regrets
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times

I bought this as my first backpacking tent, and although we've had some good (but heavy) times, it is not worth the money. I have used this tent multiple times in the wind and it has failed every time. I even added additional guy lines. The fly on the non-door side is too small to let wind appropriately come up under or over it. The poles don't maintain their X structure well and slide/flatten into one another in the wind. Basically, if it's windy, expect the side wall to literally lay on your body.

Tungsten 1P
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] While a little on the heavy side, this is a great tent to start backpacking with. I've taken it out a few times now and it has worked out great. The tent is very roomy, I had space ar my head and feet to store gear amd the vestibule had plany of room for my pack. This is a solid tent.

Disappointed

The material used for the floor and footprint feels quite cheap and slippery compared to similar priced tents, like Big Anges. I laid down inside in this tent in the backyard and closed the zipper door to get a feel for the amount of space inside: I started to feel claustrophobic. Not sure if this will happen in another one person tent or I need a bigger tent. If I kept the tent I don’t feel it would last a few years given the material used. Disappointed.

Great addition to my gear closet.

I needed a lighter weight, solo or summer as most of my dear is three season and winter. While there are lighter options out there, this 10 is perfect for me.

Overly heavy
Tent seems well made but is definitely too heavy for what it is - probably because it's made from polyester instead of nylon. It is also very flimsy so probably will be a terror in wind especially if you can't manage to reach under the fly to attach the Velcro straps to the poles.

Great tent!

I bought this tent to trek Torres del Paine the O circuit. I experienced many different climates and there were nights that the wind was just unbearable. However, the tent held on strong, it was semi light weight and extremely easy for one person to put up even with the windy weather. It was affordable and I am so happy I chose this tent for my trek. Highly reccomend.

Im very pleased with this tent

The most extreme occasion that ive used this tent so far was when i camped by a lake where temp got down to 16F at night. I left the vent at the roof open and also left the top zipper in the rain fly (the zipper next to the door zipper) half open. In the morning the outer side of the tent was entirely covered with frost but i didn't have any frost or ice on the inner mesh. I accidentally had left my backpack in the vestibule in a way that only half of it was actually in the vestibule and that half was covered with frost but the other half did not have any frost on it. The only thing that i do not like about this tent is that foot print does not stay attached to the poles or the tent once the tent is fully set up. The reason is that the size of the foot print is slightly bigger than the size of the tent. If u wanna move ur tent once uve set it up (before uve staked it) the foot print flys off.

Fairly Ordinary Tent But A Good Value
I own quite few tents from many brands, including Marmot, but have been looking for a small, freestanding 1 person tent/bivy shelter for use in the shoulder season in tight spots near treeline. There are many options out there but they are usually ultralight manufacturers and are very expensive and made with thin, delicate fabrics. The Tungsten 1P is a pretty solid overall model and I was pleased to fit in it with some space. (I am 6 ft 3 in tall). It is the usual solid contructionI expect from Marmot but had several disappointing features about it. First and foremost is the weight. It is advertised at 3 lbs 9 oz but my official measurements had it comfortably over 4 lbs with everything it came with. Even ditching the footprint that is really heavy for a 1 person freestanding tent. I have many 2 person tents in this weight range. Second issue was the amount of mesh. I specifically chose this model over the ultralight version because I'm using for shoulder season and wanted less mesh. The pictures so a nice high fabric front on the door/vestibule side, perfect for what I wanted, but the back wall opposite the door is all mesh down to the bathtub floor. Considering how heavy it already is I'm sure that is why this was chosen but it was not what I was expecting. The third issue I found was that the fabrics of the body and fly are quite baggy and sag unless you have a really taut pitch, which can be an issue depending on the type of ground you pitch it on. I think this will be particularly problematic on the all mesh back wall. The fly rests right on it and I suspect will let moisture through. This could have been alleviated or prevented with a short cross pole at the top, which adds some tension and better headroom. This is becoming a common feature on most new 1 person tents but is lacking in Marmot models. So all in all a well made tent and a good value but some of the design choices are disappointing and the weight could be an issue for many people. If weight is an issue and you'll be using the tent in warmer weather the ultralight version seems to be worth the extra money.

Light and not a drop of water inside during rain
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So far, so good. On my first trip out with the Tungsten 1 person tent, it rained pretty heavily in the middle of the night and not a drop of water inside. It is a super small tent, but that's to be expected for such a light backpacking option.

How many inches of clearance between the fly and the inner wall? My sleeping bag is a little too wide for the tent -hope it will stay dry if touching the inner wall.

I see only one hook near the top. Do you have to feed the tent poles through a bunch of loops? It looks to me like only the top has a pole hook and the other is fabric loops?
