Why We Like The Tungsten Tent
After another double-digit mile day on the trail, we clear a spot for Marmot's Tungsten Tent. With color-coded poles and clips simplifying setup and a zone pre-bend construction creating near vertical walls, we're slipping inside a roomy fabric fortress in minutes. We slot our headlamp into the lampshade pocket for a little ambient lighting as we get situated for the night, while the double vestibules give us and our adventure mate each our own dry storage.

Perfect all around Tent
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I was looking for a replacement for my decade-old rei half dome, and this is perfect. It's actually very similar to the half dome. Very well made and durable. It's light enough for a few nights of backpacking, but is also big enough to be comfortable and great for car camping. It's not ultra light, but most of the time I don't need that and im happy to trade it for the extra durability. Easy to setup with color-coding. Highly recommend for an all-around tent. Extra roomy for 1 and comfortable for 2. My only wish is that they would add a few more mesh pockets in the interior for phone, keys, etc. there's only 2-3 pockets

Great Design but Poles Break
The tent's pole snapped on its 41st night of use, with a second crack developing. There are a lot of great things about this tent, but that is simply far too soon for a significant break. My use is backcountry backpacking and canoe camping, but I take very good care of my gear and my poles in particular: always on a pack exterior, never under pressure within a pack. On the one hand, I think the shape, size, features, weight, and value of this tent are great. Until now, I've loved it. But if you have to be worried about whether your poles are going to have multiple breaks in the middle of a trip before you've even used it 50 nights, that undoes all the strong points. I'm not sure if this issue is a matter of low quality materials or if the geometry of the tent design exerts too much pressure on the poles.

The 2016 verson has been great
As I write, it is 2024. I have had the tent since 2016. I use it as a 1-person tent. I average about 45 days a year in this tent. It is not uncommon for me to pitch it, and leave it set-up, for 14 days at a time...this long UV-exposure use is hard on tents. I have had zero problems with the tent. Never got wet, never blown away, no repairs, zippers are still 100%. It is, of course, pretty darn snug if used by two people...but, that's the nature of 2-person backpacking tents, regardless of make/model.

Decent tent
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
For entry level this tent is rather decent. However it has a few design flaws and cheapened materials (ie the plastic clips for one feel like they will break). The fly vent, when used in tropical locales where constant mist to drizzle is the norm, add a bit of wind and that vent on one side of the fly at the ceiling lets water in and I had puddles. If I closed it, the tent would condensate. The fly entry can also be annoying to go in and out, just a strange cut that I think needs a re-design. In other climates that I've used it in with heavier rain, the vent didn't seem to be an issue so if you have rain and wind turn the tent where the vent faces downwind. One very bizarre experience is that it was a bit of a wasp magnet. They came in under the fly or through the ceiling vent (darn vent once again) and would get trapped between tent and fly, buzzing all night. Next day I'd remove the fly to free them and by evening they were back again. Never experienced this with any of my other tents. Is it the golden color they're attracted to? Who knows. Just a bad wasp year in Canada's North, perhaps.

Great Tent with one significant problem
I have owned several Marmot Tungsten tents over the years. I am a big fan of them. Unfortunately this version has a small section of zipper on the fly that serves no practical purpose. It does however allow water to run down and drip on the inner tent. I own two of these tents and I have determined it is definitely a design flaw due to that zipper. In moderate rain you will get water dripping on to the body of the tent and pooling on the floor. Very disappointing.

Reliable!
My 2p Marmot Tungsten has been very reliable. It kept me dry through a few very heavy downpours in the Midwest. With doors on both sides, access remains easy whether I am by myself or have a tent mate. Perfect for myself and my hiking gear. Rainfly can be used multiple ways for either privacy, easy access or wind-flow. For the price, it is durable and reliable.

Lots of color mixing?
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This tent is fantastic for a to the point 2 person tent. I bought this tent after camping a handful of times with my friend who has an older model and was impressed by the ease of use/setup and packaging. One star was taken away for the choice of parts coloring, two pole ends and tent rivet tabs are dark blue while the rest are yellow. This is like having socks that have left/right printed on them, it's unnecessary and makes it look goofy if you mix it up. It would have been more favorable to make all tent pole ends the consistent yellow to make it easier to setup at night and reduce the chance of poking your friends eye out.

Perfect Balance Between Weight and Durability
This spring I took the greatest leap of adolescence and bought my first tent independent of my family. I knew I needed something that toed the fine line between durability and portability, as I would primarily be using it for river trips and backpacking. After an extensive and frankly obsessive research process, only the Tungsten 2p met my many demands. After some agonizing, I decided to take the leap, despite never owning a Marmot tent before. I am so glad I did! My first night in this tent, my dog and I stayed warm and dry despite the inch of snow that fell on top of us. This tent vents in a way that frankly I didn't know was possible and feels relatively spacious for being just a 2 person. I would say it can comfortably fit two average sized people and two medium sized packs. I have used it now for an entire spring and summer season in the peaks of the San Juans and various river canyons of the Southwest. Never once have I awoken to a drop of condensation nor had it rattle in obnoxious winds. Its quick and easy to set up solo and can pack down incredibly small. The wide open mesh top allows for spectacular star viewing and perhaps best if all, it's a spectacular color! I couldn't recommend this tent enough if you need something light and durable or just want to make a wise investment in an introductory tent. 100/10

Sadly disappointed
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I REALLY wanted to love this tent! However, I was not too impressed with the quality. The rain fly seams were not flush with the tent poles. We tried using the guy lines to pull out the wrinkles but it still bunched up in certain areas... I could tell this would be a problem in wet weather. Also, you have to awkwardly crawl under the rain fly to attach to the tent poles. Overall disappointed

Marmot really delivers with this tent!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This tent (tungsten 2p) is bulletproof. It’s been through the ADK’s , the Whites in NH, the Great Smokies, and everywhere in between. I split the weight up with my wife, and at around 2lbs each, (.9kg) you won’t find a more durable, reliable piece of equipment worth that weight in your pack. Flash snow storms in may, high wind storms at elevation, and torrential downpours in the ADK’s. I’ve never had a drop of water in it once, and the hardware has held up better than anything I’ve ever owned. Great gear as always!!

What are the detailed specs of the tent floor? Is it 68D Polyester Tafetta like the previous version? Is there a PU coating on the outside of the floor fabric? Do you know how many oz. the floor weighs? Thank you in advance for your answers!

What is EXACTLY the true length of the sleeping surface in CM?

camped recently, great at keeping most of wind, condensation and ice out. however, could not understand the zipper, seems there are two vertically and one horizontally on the green shell outer. what's the horizontal one for, couldn't open fully? cheers!

I lost the secondary brow pole. Could I have its dimensions? I assume only the length and diameter at the ends matter.

Is the packing bag for the Tungston 2-person waterproof? I will have it on the outside of my pack, and I'm wondering if I need to worry about covering it up in the rain?

I lost the outer shell of this tent. How could I get a replacement?
