Why We Like The Absolute Zero Down Parka
The Absolute Zero is Mountain Hardwear's most advanced climbing parka for big mountain guides and alpinists ascending the highest peaks in harsh conditions. We like that its 800-fill down insulation is some of the loftiest, most compressible insulation available, and Mountain Hardwear worked with Allied Down to ensure responsible sourcing and processing. The Pertex Diamond Fuse shell excels at abrasion and water resistance, and welded baffles bolster the parka's overall waterproofing.

Absolute zero jacket
Love most of this jacket. Down in collar tends to gather on one side leaving weird feeling. Most of jacket is awesome and warm but few spots seem to have little to no insulation. Zipper is tricky. Jacket is close to perfect but it’s not!

Absolute Zero parka is a winner
This bad boy is one top-notch parka. It’s got abrasion-resistant material in the sleeves. 800-fill down. And not a heavy parka at all.

Zipper Problematic
I bought this jacket last winter and from day one I had small issues with the zipper as the fine teeth caught sections of the coat when doing up to the point it ripped a small portion near the top. I started using it again this winter and the teeth on the zipper failed after 2 weeks of using it this year. Fine tooth zippers on this type of jacket is not a good choice. Parka is great for warmth but the zipper is poor.

Empty baffle for a winter expedition jacket
I received it last week from a reputable online seller and upon inspection I discovered one of baffles is completely empty! This is a brand new jacket with tag attached! With this being a winter expedition jacket I was really surprised that this defect would happen.. especially being Mountain Hardwear. I always had great experience with this brand but this time it had really let me down. With the price it this shouldn’t happen at all. I was very disappointed

Ridiculously Good
If you want to look like a ridiculous Michelin Man, this is your jacket. The good thing is that you’ll be ridiculously comfortable. Turns -30 C into T shirt weather. Every time I wear this jacket, I find some little feature that’s extremely well thought out AND well executed. The wrist cuffs seen odd at first, but I’ve cone to love them. The point of origin of the cuffs in mid-forearm let’s you pull your hands up into the outer sleeve for a quick warm up. Just the other day I discovered little fine mesh windows in the cuffs that let you look at your watch without taking your outer glove or cuff off. The face shield tucks away nicely into little garages - again, well thought and executed. There’s 11 pockets. The lower patch pockets on top of the zipped pockets are a bit tight and hard to access with the vey tenacious velcro. A bit of bellowing and zipper might may have worked a bit better for use in cold weather. The little shopping list pocket on the left sleeve is useful - there may be a technical use, but for now it’s the shopping list pocket. Mountain Hardwear should be really proud of themselves for this one. 6/5 score if they’d let me. I’ve worked in the Arctic in th past, and would like to have had this jacket.

Arctic Circle Endorsed/Zipper Will Be First Failure
Over all a grade of 97% - this thing is warm and allows mobility. Worn in winds up to 40 mph and wind chills of -40 I sweat walking to work in the Arctic Circle (USA). However, all said and done, this being a MERCEDES of a coat for Arctic daily life, the ZIPPER WILL FAIL. I anticipate sending them back for repair in the summer.

Excellent

This parka exceeded my expectations. Seems very well made with numerous pockets. I really like the hood function with multiple adjustments. It is heavy and bulky but that is the exact reason you should be buying this jacket. I am very thankful for all the reviews discussing the sizing as it runs very big. IMO you should size down 1 full size with this jacket. I normally wear a Large, 5'9" and 185 and the medium fit me perfect with room for a couple layers. If you are going to use this jacket for high altitude mountaineering (I am not) you may want to stay with your original size for multiple layering. Excellent zipper and velcro functions.
