Why We Like The Mountain Hardwear Chockstone Alpine Hooded Jacket
When we're above the treeline, vulnerable against mountain winds, we pull the Chockstone Alpine Hooded Jacket from within its own pocket and zip it on. Mountain Hardwear's Chockstone doubleweave material quiets howling winds without suffocating our microclimate. The raglan sleeves and stretch fabrication ensure we have full range of motion whether we're climbing or belaying, while the pockets remain accessible and the hood remains functional when we're clad in our harness and helmet.

Slim fit, great material
Great jacket, fits on the slimmer side but with plenty of stretch- size up if you want a but more room to layer or move around. Material feels better than a traditional soft shell, has held up very well in rain and snow. Sits a little longer in the back.

My Go To Alpine Soft Shell
Best soft shell I own. Durable, technical, right fit and everything I need, nothing I don't on the softshell. Mountain Hardwear produces top notch quality technical gear for the alpine environment. Best American outdoor wear apparel company with products on the level of Arcteryx. Keep it up Mountain Hardwear!

Phenomenal softshell!
I purchased this jacket a few months back as a winter mountaineering layering piece. It has since become much more than that. This jacket is super stretchy, moves with you in every way you want and it's light weight. It packs into it's own pocket, which I rarely use since I'm always wearing it. The low profile hood fits under a helmet nicely. The water resistance is unbelievable, so much so, that I wore it in the shower to fully test it. The water just beads off. The 2 hand warmer pockets are easily accessible while wearing a harness. And still accessible when wearing a pack. (Not as much as just a harness.) The chest pocket is cavernous. It runs from the top of the jacket down to almost the bottom. Easily holds map, compass, gps, phone, teddy bear, or whatever you like to take on your climb/hike. The single pull hem adjustment is awesome for a quick fit. I'm 5' 11" and weigh in at 180lbs give or take a few. I ordered a medium first. It was tight in the chest with no room for layering. Ended up with the large. Just baggy enough for a base layer and microchill fleece. Sleeves are slightly long, but that's due to the large sizing. I've had this jacket beyond its limits I believe. It's only somewhat wind resistant, so I've tested at a variety of altitudes. 13,700' being the highest yet. It wasn't until the winds were gusting over 50mph, (wind chill was around -17°F) that I had to add another layer over the Chockstone. And as long as the snow isn't blizzard like conditions you'll stay dry. (The Colorado mountains never disappoint in the winter.) This is now my go to jacket. Taking the dog out, grocery store, nightlife, etc. It is a super comfy and sharp looking jacket. (MHW gear always makes you look cool.) Its one of my favorite purchases yet. I definitely recommend. If you use this jacket for what it was designed, you will not be disappointed. If you feel you need a heavier alpine climbing jacket, check out the mixaction jacket. It's just as excellent with a little more burliness.
