Why We Like The Ghost Whisperer 2 Down Jacket
The Mountain Hardwear Men's Ghost Whisperer Down Jacket won a number of awards in the industry when it was first released back in 2012, and it has since become the gold standard in ultralight down jackets. Part of the allure of the Ghost Whisperer (besides its ridiculously lightweight design) was Mountain Hardwear's resolve to keep the jacket fully loaded with the proverbial bells and whistles, instead of just chopping features in an attempt to keep the jacket light.
The Ghost Whisperer is ideal for climbing in the alpine, long-haul backpacking trips, and peak-bagging bids where packing light and moving fast is key to reaching our objective. While we might typically reserve our down jacket for dry and mild climates, the Ghost Whisperer isn't afraid to get a little wet thanks to its nylon outer with DWR treatment that can easily fight off light weather. As an added bonus the nylon outer boasts impressive durability for climbing missions, and is made entirely of recycled materials.

Great, but fit needs improvement
The Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer jacket is an incredibly lightweight midlayer, offering low to medium warmth. However, the fit leaves much to be desired. The torso is boxy, the arms are baggy below the shoulders, and the underarm area feels uncomfortably tight. This tightness becomes especially noticeable when reaching forward, such as when tying shoelaces or fastening ski boots, leading to pulling across the underarms and back. In terms of warmth, it sits below options like the Rab Microlight, Patagonia Down Sweater, and Arc’teryx Cerium (800+ fill power puffers). However, it outshines all of them in lightness and packability making it a fantastic not too hit midlayer and standalone travel jacket (airport layover comfy). If Mountain Hardwear could resolve the fit issues, this jacket would undoubtedly become a unicorn piece in the midlayer category.

Excellent
Little big but overall very warm. Size is Xl is definitely roomy for layering up. True size of L, could've gotten away with a hoody though.

Great "Puffy"
Bought to use layering when backpacking or hiking. Great warmth to weight ratio. Packs down very well. So far have only used it walking the dog on mornings in the high 20s. Worked well for that and so I expect it will perform just as I want it to when backpacking.

Fits is definitely on the slim side
I bought this jacket a month ago and returned it. The quality seemed nice but the fit was too small. I found the shoulders and body a little too tight. Definitely not a standard fit. It is more of a fitted or slim fit. I had restricted arm movement with a medium. Length was good though. The Ventano is a standard fit. I bought that one too and kept that one.

Must have jacket!
Love the Ghost Whisperer 2. It’s a thin light weight jacket where I can use on evenings and mornings where there slight crisp in air. I also wear even in warmer temps just because it’s cozy when wearing just a t-shirt. Definitely, a delicate material to be aware of outdoor surroundings. Only reason why I took off a start is because of the sizing has me in between a MD and L. I am 6’2” 185# and waist 32”. Medium is ideal fit, yet shoulders are slightly tight when I cross my arms. This size is better than when wearing Large, tho. Large is too long in sleeves and too blousy. This is my third Whisperer not because they fall apart, but because I like having multiple colors due to wanting to wear it so much. Must have jacket!

Lightweight, very warm with shell
Picked this up before a hut-to-hut hike in Austria. It's super lightweight, isn't too warm if you're just sitting around in the lodge, but really cooks with a shell over it. Very packable, and great ease of movement. Would definitely recommend.
